Fleet OpenSource Software Systems

“I like the datanet, but they only show the highlights.”

-FLTADM Natasha Tseliadan, on FO3S

Fleet OpenSource Software Systems (FO3S) is an After Action Report (AAR) Viewer, 3d Ship Builder, Briefier, Debriefier, and Operation Planner. The program, while free, doesn’t function without proper ship information. (Serniani Software only has access to Serniani Ships, Calerostan Software only has access to Calerostan Ships, etc, etc.)

Corvettes

“I love speeding around the BattleSpace, but I like carrying heavier weapons than what a Starfighter can bring.”

- “Lavenza,” DNC Procurement Officer, on Corvettes

A Corvette could mean one of two things. There’s a bigger Task Force of ships lurking about, or you’re being pulled over by Counter Piracy Force. There usually is no in-between. Corvettes excel in a screening role, being able to immediately turn around and run should they enter an engagement the crew finds unfavorable. The main downside is that these things armor and shielding break incredibly quickly.

"Hermes" Class Corvette

Hermes Class Corvette

“I heard FLTADM Tseliadan has a soft spot for the Hermes. I mean, who doesn’t? It’s fast, you bring a nice 250mm, the armor is pretty nice if you’re transferring off Starfighters, and personally, I approved this project.”

- “Lavenza,” DNC Procurement Officer, on Corvettes

Frigates

“For when you need to be affordable, but you don’t want to bring twenty Corvettes.”

- “Lavenza,” DNC Procurement Officer, on Frigates

Stepping up from Corvettes, Frigates can do just about anything, but lack stopping power. System Defense Forces love them for being able to carry a bunch of everything, whether it be PD, an extra gun, or VLS. Frigates are the best light multirole vessels in the Nebula.

Destroyers

“Things get specialized, and more importantly, deadlier.”

- “Lavenza,” DNC Procurement Officer, on Destoryers

Entering into the larger ship classes, Destroyers do a wide variety of things. You are finally able to mount larger guns, better shielding, everything is much better than Frigates, but much everything is much more specialized.

//COMMAND ADVISED FREE ENGAGEMENT//

- Blackbox of the Combat Systems Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) during the battle over Cascade-23A.

We enter into the realm of Cruisers, where most ships are equipped with 450mm Coilguns, and preform Command & Control (C2) for average sized fleets. Most Task Forces have three or four Cruisers in the center, creating a near impenetrable Point Defense Net due the sheer volume of lead.

Strike & Fleet Carriers

“The Admiralty used to see these ships as useless. Proximity Defense and Flak in all likelihood render any ship attempting to strafe a capital vessel dead. Then we learned about missile hauling, and immediately recommissioned them.”

- “Lavenza,” DNC Procurement Officer, on Carriers

Carriers, unlike in our world, are not the pride and joy of the Directorate. They are not placed front and center on fleet day, that’s a job for Battlecruisers and Cruisers. They are not force projection, that’s a job for Cruiser Task Forces. They don’t patrol The Line, that’s a job for the Palisade. No, Carriers are the ultimate First Strike, dropping out of SkipSpace, launching their complement of fighters, and immediately jumping away.

Battlecruisers

“Rest assured, when they do, they’ll carry ‘Pax Directorate’. The Directorate’s Peace.”

- RADM Calcie Venzi, upon being questioned about the expenses for the Warden Class

Battlecruisers, currently, are the largest ships in the Serniani inventory, being some of the only ships to pass the kilometer mark, other than some Carriers. Battlecruisers bring forward the best armor, best shielding, best weapons, and put them into one large ship. These vessels often are the cornerstone of ‘Fleet Day.’

"Warden" Class Battlecruiser

Warden Class Battlecruiser

“Why doesn’t the Velvet Rose use Battleships, Kotone? Is the Directorate stupid? Well, you see, we ran the numbers, and it simply isn’t worth, at this current time, to make ships larger than the classifications of Battlecruiser. War in the sector hasn’t come to the Directorate in a thousand years, and the logistics strain to make a larger ship than a Warden or even a Defiance would leave the Velvet Merchant Marine in shambles.”

- “Kotone Riolia,” Chief Petty Officer, lamenting on why Rosecordia doesn’t have larger classes than Baattlecruisers.

Two Clipper Shuttles retrofitted for Active Duty in the Bethel Blockade, Nebulous Fleet Command.

Clipper Shuttles

“Speed, efficiency.”

-Hannah Phasewood, Consultant

Reliant on the Relay Systems in the Nebula, Clipper Shuttles move people around quickly and efficiently. While being phased out of service due to Nexus Transit becoming more popular, these ships often sit in Mothball Yards, ready to be called up if the Nexus disappears.

"Skypiercer" Pattern Clipper Shuttle

Skypiercer Pattern Clipper Shuttle

You’ll often find a Skypiercer, or a hundred thousand, sitting in each of the Mothball Yards. These have been around since the Serniani developed space travel, so that should tell you their current state of quality. Some of these have been retrofitted for combat duty, using their incredible speed to charge down stations for boarding actions.

"Tempo" Pattern Clipper Shuttle

Tempo Pattern Clipper Shuttle

Tempo Pattern Clipper Shuttles are pretty quick, and have integrated SkipSpace Drives. TPCS are often found outside The Line, being used for transportation in the Frontier Territories. Some of these are used for exploration, sacrificing their capacity for people

I’ve decided to not actually write out SDR Civilian Vessels, as they are non standardized and that would become fairly annoying imo. The above is still canon unless mentioned I will not mention other civilian ships

The Naval Defense Force’s Future

“…As of now, the Velvet Rose Naval Defense Forces are a pure exploration and defensive scouting force. In an ever changing combat environment, with new threats approaching rapidly, and defending key sector allies outside the Line, I am proud to present The Fleet Design for Stardate 200…”

Aya Corbet, Chief of Staff of Directorate Defense Forces

Fleet Design 200 (FTDN200) is a Fleet reorganization strategy designed to turn the Naval Defense Force into an expeditionary fighting force.

New Doctrine

Overmatch System Superiority - Attacking multiple systems with overwhelming force, at the same time, preventing clusters of resistance from forming

Dispersered Hit and Run - All Enemy Infrastructure is targetable. Exploit the gaps and slip through, hit Population Centers, Industry, anything that allows the brings the fighting to a swift close.

Decapitate & Incapacitate - Enemy Capitals are priority targets, not for their value as the capital, but rather for their ability to neutralize leaders.
