The Reform coalition has entered a small crisis as the Green and the Liberals cannot agree on the continued usage of nuclear power as a renewable energy source in the future. The Greens would like to lower the share of the energy mix down to 25% whilst the Liberal are demanding a 50% share. Currently, nuclear power makes up 6% of the total energy mix (14% of the renewable sources). The clash is also over a technicality whether nuclear power should be regarded as a renewable energy source or as a “Brückentechnologie” (Bridge technology) until the energy mix is fully renewable. The latter would mean it would get phased out, which is the preferred option of the LfE.
The latest “dramatic” moment of the debate was when the Liberal faction chief said “They [the Greens] should stop being so dramatic and ideological. Instead they should try something called ‘pragmatism’.”
The Prime Minister hasn’t commented on the debate.
