[2532.CN] Chair Resolution (July 2025)

Posting this topic to notify the Assembly that the current Chair’s term ends July 1st.

I am personally in favor of Welly continuing in their role as Chair for a 3 month term, or longer if they wish.

I nominate @Welly for re-election.

Leg Proc Act 2(2) says that the Chair is chosen by resolution, so it isn’t really an “elected” office per se.

To that effect, will the Chair @Welly confirm their intention to remain as Chair, including the duration for which they wish to retain the Chair, so that the Assembly can pass such a resolution?

Yes, I can! I was slightly hesitant due to RL commitments, but quite miraculously some late-breaking developments have cleared my schedule. I’m happy to stay for three months and keep things synched to the PM election calendar, if that is what the Assembly prefers.

In light of @Welly’s affirmative response, I hereby present the following resolution to the Assembly:

July 2025 Chair Resolution

A resolution to choose Welly as Chair of the Assembly

WHEREAS, the term of the incumbent Chair is approaching its conclusion on July 1, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Welly assumed the responsibilities of Chair following the resignation of Nwahs; and

WHEREAS, the Assembly formally elected Welly as Chair on June 4, 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Assembly believes that they should be afforded the opportunity to complete a full term of service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY:

That @Welly is hereby elected to serve as Chair of the Assembly until October 1, 2025 4:00 PM.

Sure. This remains silly tho.

I’m failing to see the meaning of this comment.

I’m registering general protest at the fact we are using this “resolution” system for selecting the Chair, while still supporting the proposal.

I move that we proceed to a vote on the resolution.

Second.

I am coming around to agreeing with this sentiment. I envisioned this as a more flowery and grandiose process, with the resolutions listing accomplishments and explaining why the Assembly felt person X was best suited for the position, similar to this. Our most recent resolution was decidedly not that.

The new resolution is an improvement :stuck_out_tongue:

The Assembly passed it because nobody else put up a more flowery resolution. I know I said I would, and that ended up not happening, but others are welcome to provide inputs.

Semi-related, the Assembly can also just commend our own members a la SC, without the hubbub of doing it in the SC. We can pass resolutions highlighting the work that folks like Tsrill have done for us.

I agree with HumanSanity about flowery resolutions not being particularly appealing. I would even go simpler than the current draft:

July 2025 Chair Election Resolution
A resolution to elect Welly as Chair of the Assembly

WHEREAS the term of the incumbent Chair of the Assembly has expired and a new presiding officer must be elected.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY:

  1. Welly is hereby elected Chair of the Assembly for a term expiring on 2025-10-01T16:00:00Z.

And here I was hoping we passed it because it wasn’t flowery…

At least we’re not pinging our Chair like a dozen times this time around?

In any case, I have even less interest in bikeshedding. I’m sure either draft is fine.

Given that Erstavik’s draft has been moved to vote and seconded, we are now at vote!
