[2446.AP] Oct 2024 Chair Resolution

The current term for the incumbent Chair ends at the end of the month, per: January 2024 Chair Resolution. I believe it is the right time for the Assembly to debate the adoption of a Chair again.

As it is the important power and duty of this Assembly to adopt its Chair per the Legislative Procedure Act, I believe that there should be some debate before we vote on a resolution to adopt a Chair. In particular, legislators ought to raise where they feel that the Chair has fallen short in the previous term, and what different ways the Chair can better serve the Assembly in the next term. In particular, some things that I believe are worth discussing are:

  1. The activities of Assembly leadership over the current term: [2408.AP] Activities of Assembly Leadership
  2. The necessity of Assembly topic archival policy: [2436.AP] New Assembly Topic Archival Policy Draft

It is my personal view that the incumbent Chair @BlockBuster2K43 has served with great distinction and impartiality during the current term, and I would personally support any resolution to adopt him for another term, if he were so pleased as to continue in this office.

I echo what was just said. We have had capable Assembly administration for a long time now, and if the incumbent expresses interest in retaining their role, I’d be amenable to it.

If anybody else is interested in being chair, I’d be open to hearing them out.

I would be interested in serving another term as Chair. However, I will stress that if adopted, this would be my last term. I would not seek another term in office.

I’ll put together a post detailing my plans for another term, hopefully over the next few days, and address any concerns or questions legislators may have. :grinning:

To be honest, I was interested in being chair, but after @BlockBuster2K43, said he will seek another term, I have no such intentions any longer. @BlockBuster2K43 , had an amazing first term, and I can’t wait to see another one, The only question I have now is how long this term will be.

I’m very glad to hear this. Since the Assembly can determine a term of up to 12 months length, do you have a rough timeline as to when you would want to continue serving until?

@lordnwahs, is their a minimum of how many months for term?

To be honest, I haven’t really thought much about when I would aim to leave office. Now that I think about it, I am inclined to suggest a resolution providing for a term ending on April 30th/May 1st 2025, if an appointment resolution is adopted on October 31st/November 1st, as this would provide for a six month term, which was the standard term length under the old system. However, this is only a suggestion, and if the Assembly decides to re-appoint me as Chair, and chooses on either a shorter of longer term, I shall serve it.

There isn’t a minimum. We could always appoint BlockBuster for 30 minutes if we wanted to—maybe 35 :stuck_out_tongue:

“Your 60-second term begins now”

In all seriousness, if no one else throws their name in for consideration, I am inclined to make this a short term (say, until January) so that people can jump in at the beginning of the year if they choose.

Then, if no one does, we can keep @BlockBuster2K43 chained to the chair until I dissolve the Assembly at a future date.

Oh, I thought I saw once that Chairs have a term of a minimum of 6 months, I am probably wrong then

@Griffindor really wants to coup!

I agree with this plan, and if no one says they will run then, then BlockBuster can go all the way to April/May in another subsequent term.

I would nominate the Deputy Chair, as an alternative for the Assembly to discuss, to give the sitting Chair some breathing room and much needed time off.

To clarify; are you suggesting that the Assembly nominate and confirm a deputy chair, in addition to the Chair?

I did make a post on discord, about this on the legislators lounge channel, I am also questioning how we’re doing the deputy chair as well

The Deputy Chair(s) is/are appointed by the Chair, they serve at the pleasure of the Chair as there is no designated term limit. The powers of the Deputy Chair(s) are specified when they are appointed to their office. The specific clause outlining this can be found here. Sub-section 5, of section 2 of the Legislative Procedure Act

I would nominate the Deputy Chair to serve as Chair.

In the following term, after this one?

No, for this term, if they would like to.
