Next Day
Former Prime Minister Walton has issued a statement following his unexpected resignation. He said, 'When you become Prime Minister, you know there’s a day coming when you will have to step down and pass the responsibility on to someone else, but nothing quite prepares you for it.
'This journey has been one that I will never forget and one that will be part of me forever. There are no words to describe what it feels like to be the Prime Minister.
'The people really are the beating heart of this country and I cannot thank them, my own constituents and my House colleagues for welcoming me in and making this such a touching experience.
‘I’ve loved every minute of it, but now it is the time to hand over that responsibility and let someone else take control and enjoy every bit of it as much as I have. I’ll truly miss it and forever be grateful to it, and everyone who has played a part in my journey as the Prime Minister.’
Mister Speaker Philip Horn has also released a statement.
'What a Prime Minister! Thank you, Cecil! This has been an absolute joy and everyone who works in Parliament, MPs and those behind the scenes, are so lucky to have been part of Cecil’s time as Prime Minister.
‘Cynthia once changed the way we approach business in Parliament, back in 2005, when she became Deputy Prime Minister, then a member of a different Party. Now she’s doing it again. It is an honour and a hoot to welcome her back to the Cabinet as Prime Minister.’
2 June
Former Prime Minister Walton has released a further statement on his resignation as Prime Minister.
'It’s a role that demands a lot of you, physically, emotionally, mentally. The politicians serving as Prime Minister are, unfortunately, mere mortals.
I would love to have the energy and the youth to be able to do this full time for the rest of my life but my heart is telling me it’s time.’
Former Prime Minister Walton was seen discussing his resignation with Joanna Barrett moments before announcing his resignation. Walton has denied Barrett’s involvement in any decision to resigm.
Prime Minister Erickson has re-admitted Joanna Barrett to the Modern Marxist Party, one year after she was kicked out of the Party by Walton as punishment for her slavery policies as Modern Marxist Leader and Prime Minister. The Prime Minister declined to comment on the decision. This raises the Coalition Parliamentary Majority from 159 to 160.
4 June
