Overnight Izaakian Armed Forces at the Siege of Piedmont Castle Prison performed a daring raid in thick fog. The Special Air Service performed a precision parachute air drop into the central yard of the prison and stormed the canteen where the hostages were being kept. In the initial firefight 9 prisoners, 24 ALF Terrorists and 3 SAS soldiers died. Within three minutes the canteen and 82 hostages were secured, although under heavy fire from the other buildings.
As per the plan gas masks were distributed to the prisoners, and an air strike called in. The airstrike delivered an excess of a classified “Incapacitation Agent” gas which neutralised the armed criminals and ALF terrorists. The prison was then stormed by the army to secure the prisoners. The Izaakian military puts the fatality rate at 30% for the incapacitation agent, and are estimating around 350 deaths from the 1150 prisoners and terrorists.
The rescue operation of the ferry ‘Selpe Verbinder’ has been finished. All 195 people have been either rescued or recovered. 63 people have died, a fatality rate of 31%. 51 people died on the ship, 10, after they were saved, from their injuries. 8 of those were children. 2 as part of the SAR team after being trapped by the fire. This marks a dark day in Efladian history, as the second most fatal marine disaster since the great war. The ship’s wreckage has been secured and the salvage should start soon. Rescued people were transported to schools, hotels and other institutions in Selpe.
Videos have surfaced of people using their private boats for rescue when they saw the ship capsized.
Under emergency powers granted by the President, the Governor of Vinlandia has issued a Prohibition Notice on firearms in Athos County. Legal gun owners in the county have been requested to hand their firearms over to the County Police, State Troopers or National Guard until the prohibition ends. Following the amnesty period which ends on Friday the penalty for possession of a firearm in the county will be a minimum sentence of 5 years in jail.
