Postcard: Enfi Tower, Ricubai
The camera weaves through the many skyscrapers of the Ricubai skyline to the top of the Enfi Tower, revealing a man with his back to the camera, tinkering with a vintage television. Slowly, the camera pans in to the television screen as it flickers to life. On screen, a man in his mid-30s waves his hands in a dramatic welcome. Then, suddenly, he snaps his fingers, and the screen flickers to black.
Song
The stage opens in pitch black. Wwith only a brief electric crackle, the music starts — a rich singing voice layered over a rhythmic beat. In the darkness, speakers surround the stage, creating the impression of sound emanating from every direction.
I remember when we were fourteen
Two kids lost in a new dream
I remember how it felt to feel this way
Yeah we fell in love with the mystery
Sure that our lives would be history
Yeah we always thought that we would be okay
Neon lights on a drum set and electric keyboard slowly illuminate. The camera pans in to the pianist, fingers dancing across the keys in the orange-red glow.
But I don′t know how I got lost
Don’t know how I got caught
I don′t want to feel anxious anymore
Suddenly, the stage is illuminated by bright orange and white lights. In the center stands izc, microphone in hand, as he launches into the chorus.
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long can we stand here
We don’t need a sign to run away
We don’t need a fire to make a change
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long do we stand here
We don′t need a sign to run away
We don′t need a reason to make a change
izc turns and begins pacing the stage.
I remember when I was nineteen
In college life was a sure thing
I remember how it felt to feel untamed
It’s the way you act like you own it
Cause every story you wrote it
I remember how it felt to feel this safe
As he sings the pre-chorus, he holds his microphone close to his mouth with his right hand, making broad sweeping gestures with his left.
But I don′t know how I got lost
Don’t know how I got caught
I don′t want to feel anxious anymore
And I want feel like we’re young
Want to feel like we′re bold
I don’t want to feel anxious anymore
He turns back to face the audience, gesturing energetically, his resonant voice carrying renewed energy.
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long can we stand here
We don’t need to sign to run away
We don′t need to fight to make a change
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long do we stand here
We don′t need to sign to run away
We don’t need a reason to make a change
A line of background singers step forward into the light, vocalizing in harmony.
Hold up
Wait up
Oooooh
izc places the microphone in a stand, grasping it with both hands, and looks out into the crowd.
I don′t know how I got lost
Don’t know how I got caught
I don′t want to feel anxious anymore
And I want feel like we’re young
Want to feel like we′re bold
I don’t want to feel anxious anymore
He grabs the microphone stand, moving it as he sings.
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long can we stand here
We don’t need to sign to run away
We don′t need to fight to make a change
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long do we stand here
We don′t need to shine to run away
We don’t need a reason to make a change
The stage lights fade to black once again.
Hold up, there must be a new way
Wait up, how long do we stand here
We don′t need to sign to run away
We don’t need a reason to make a change
The lights return. izc stands, beaming, in the center of the stage.
“Thank you Pacifica!” he says to the cheering crowd.
