Any entity one toposophic level above another can subsume and absorb the mind of the lower one
Often times the lower being dissolves completely into the mind of the higher being, either disappearing completely or living in strange states of consciousness (usually willingly determined by the absorbing entity)
However, at times some traits of the lower entity can still emerge if they were large enough compared to the higher entity
Or even still, if the higher entity chooses to, the lower entity can continue to retain it’s individuality while still being part of the higher’s processing substrate
Absorption is common at the end of a conflict between AIs of different toposophic level
The entity is first subsumed, and then absorbed
I wanna do something funny and take Æriel during the war after the slavery thing comes out
If Aeriel remains independent after the war, she’ll probably be considered a perversity by the COE, and therefore a threat to be eliminated or subdued
It’d be a plot point and a point of tension between the two powers

The COE will avoid any conflicts that don’t directly affect it, or that don’t actually endanger it’s interests
So Aeriel can do what she wants, as long as she stays away from the COE

Perversity refers to any malignant entity, usually transapient or at the least transavant, that is insane by the standards of ordinary sapients and is an hazard to life forms that are less powerful than itself.
Some such entities are very subtle; a perversity may not be immediately evident to beings of its own or lower toposophic level except by experience or careful study. A perversity is sometimes, but not necessarily, the immediate or delayed result of a botched or misfired attempt at toposophic ascent. A perversity or may not also be considered a blight, depending in part on whether or not and to what extent it spreads and assimilates other beings.
