Two Lost Souls | RUW-HRG First Contact (0 BBT)

Morgan “Starkiller” was a bomber pilot in the Commando Core, most likely the best in the entire Republic. Unfortunately for his superiors, he was aware of that. He never followed orders, went on missions all by himself, made dogfights look like an airshow and took unnecessary risks.

It was during one of his escapades things went wrong. He was on his way to bomb the living hell out of a Red Hand outpost. He obviously didn’t wait for all the beurocracy to be completed, so he went in alone without anyone, maybe except that girl from the bar, knowing he was there. That’s when his sensors detected an old FTL inhibitor. The malfunctioning device, instead of keeping his ship in the system, supercharged his quantum drive, launching him far away.

“Fucking inhibitors, I thought they dismantled all of the forsaken things.” He glanced at his HUD, displayed on his visor. “At least nothing broke, maybe except the navigation.” The navigation showed him he was well beyond the borders of the Republic. But that wasn’t possible. Even the Dreadnoughts weren’t capable of such long jumps. “At least there is some civilization here. I guess I’ll have to wait in some space port for my drive cool off. Why am I even talking to myself, it’s not like anybody can hear me over the radio.”

As his rather small vessel, painted in shining, metallic blue approached the planet, he wondered who it might belong to. Definately not the Republic, as there would have been a Border Control station. Probably Wild Regions. Starkiller hoped it wasn’t a pirate port. Unlike the Reds, they weren’t going to show up in uniform and with a stack of documents when they were about to steal your stuff. Thought few would dare to rob a Commando, he didn’t know if it applied to pilots too. They tended to be a lot skinnier.

However, he didn’t realize just how wrong he was.

It was a relatively normal day on the border control station, until they saw a unknown ship coming towards them. Code yellow, which was now more relaxed after last time was activated.

The crew on the station noticed the ship and allowed it to land safely despite not recognising the ship. Once they landed safely a couple of guards as well as a Envoy, all of the same species. They all had the same pale skin and pointed ears. The envoy speaks english with a accent he hasn’t heard before. “Greetings, we haven’t recognized your vessel but allowed you to land, please identify yourself and your alliegence. Also we haven’tseen your race before.”

Starkiller quickly turned on his universal translator when he got there. All Republic officials were equipped with those, due to the multitude of languages present there. He opened the cockpit jumped out of the ship.

He was a relatively tall Terran, 170 cm, and had some muscles, though nothing compared to the regular Commandos. He had dark, curly hair and slightly tanned skin. He was wearing a grey pilot’s jumpsuit, an oxygen mask and sunglasses. He held his helmet in one arm and had a pistol in a holster at his belt.

“You can call me Starkiller. I’m a Commando pilot.” While he was saying that he pointed at a badge on his chest. It was a shull with wings and three missles below it. “You’ve never seen a Terran before? Seriously, we are everywhere. Now, what species are you supposed to be? I never heard about any pointy ear Terrans before.”

“We aren’t terrans, though now that you mention it, we do look quite similiar.” The envoy observed “We are the Fenans, and you’re in Home Reclamation Government territory. We are new here so we have met like one other civilization so far. Though we have heard of your species from our friend.” They said

The guard asks “Should we escort him to the meeting room?”

The envoy speaks"Not yet. I’m Hex. So you’re a terran, intresting. Well you still haven’t told me your alliegence."

The navigation wasn’t broken. He really was in a foreign nation. Well, saying that he was in the Commandos might not be enough in that case.

“I come from the Republic of United Worlds, the Capitol to be exact. I am a pilot in the Commando Core, which is a part of the Grand Army. I ended up here by accident after my drive malfunctioned during a mission. You might be the first alien civilization we encountered. I probably should go and report in, get a proper diplomatic mission going. But it might take a few weeks before it gets through the beurocracy.”

He was previously worried that if he reported the situation the higher-ups might start to be more cautious about his escapades. But after he discovered an alien state, there was no way there were going to give him more than a couple hour detention.

They lead you to the meeting room and sit down “You may sit down if you’d like.”

Starkiller sits down and leans back on the chair.

“Well, your country’s name is quite unusual. Home Reclamation Government. No offense, but it sounds like one of those fascist wackos that pop up from time to time on some random planet that we have to deal with. And then get bad press for ‘violating their soveirgnity’. When it comes to Senators, sometimes you just can’t win.”

“Oh please the only thing we have in common with those scum is our love for the military. Our nation is just simply searching for our home planet in hopes that we can reunite with our home, that’s why our nation is called that.”

“Five out of the six species of the Republic either lost or destroyed their home planets. But nobody really cares about it. It’s been such such a long time that everybody forgot about them. It would’ve stayed that way, but we found a ton of old Imperial records. Btw, how big is your nation? Do you have like a map or something? I could show you the Republic after that.”

They show you the map of the HRG, the map shows the planets, the one starbase and the border outposts, as well as several planets they are considering for colonalisation “Are you making fun of our goal?” He asks calmly, not really offended just asking.

“No, of course not. You would make for a good member state if you weren’t so far away. Though I usually imagined foreign states to be much larger. Anyways, here is tye Republic. As you can see, it’s a tiny bit bigger.” He projected a hologram from a metal bracelet on his wrist. It showed a group of hundreds, maybe even thousands of stars. Ot was so zoomed out things like stations or planets weren’t visible. Around each was a colored outline meant to showcase which nation it belonged to, but it was easy to get lost in it.

The map suddenly zoomed in on one of the stars, noe showing only that system with all of its planets, moons and stations. “This is the Capitol, where I’m from. I could give you a copy of one of ours tourist maps, but I’m not sure you would be a able to translate it to Fenan or whatever language it is you speak.”

“That is a lot of systems, than again, how many of those systems are just… empty? Because if we counted all the systems that were empty that we defacto control, our nation would seem a lot larger too.”

“It doesn’t even include empty systems. If that were the case, it would be completely unreadable. I guess the only empty system it shows would be Enver, but that place is an unique case. A lot of shit happened there.” He paused for a moment. “How long ago have you lost your homeworld? There might be something about it in Imperial archives. The science guys have been sorting through them for three years and aren’t even halfway done.”

“Uh well betweeen loosing contact, the era of chaos which lasted a good 50 years, the prelude to the civil war which lasted a 1000 years, the civil war, which lasted a 100 years and finally reinventing FTL, we lost it around 2295 years, 7 months, 10 days, 13 hours and 50 minutes ago, give or take a couple seconds.”

“Damn, that’s really accurate. The Republic was created about three years ago. You know what Hex, maybe you would like to ask me some questions instead?”

“We have heard that some people believe in something called ‘hell’, a afterlife of eternal torment, we don’t, because it already exists, and it’s called fenan history class. Ah right i do have a couple of questions. What’s the ruling system of the republic?”

“We also have our own hell. We call it Malevelon Creek. We were very close to just giving up and glassing the whole place. But the ruling system. Each world has its own separate government and can send one Senator to represent the world’s interests in the Senate, which is the legislative body. Then there is the President who is elected in a popular vote and is the head of the state. The President appoints the Cabinate, made up of Ministers who do the day to day running of the Republic. In reality, the President is mainly a figurehead and most power lies with the Senate and Ministers, which have to be approved by the Senate anyways.” He sighted and rolled his eyes. “I was called back to the Academy to learn all this useless stuff. A total waste of time in my opinion.”

“Learning is always a good thing in our opinion. Though some of it should be elective, depending on your position. A military commander doesn’t need to be a expert in politics. That sounds like a confediration more than a united front. I feel like that leads to a lot of instability. Oh well, we of all people have no place to judge. Next question, i suppose i should get out the way is does your nation have slavery?”

“Of course we don’t! Oh yeah, you don’t know our history. Well, we used to be slaves to the Imperium of Enver, until we broke free and created pur own state, the Republic. I used to be a slave myself. And about the instability, you can say that again. But things are getting better now.”

“Good for you! We are very happy to hear you broke free from those scum who deserve nothing less than death. Next question i should ask is how advanced is your nation technology?”
