Premier Ferrant’s vision to implement preferential voting in Viridia has become a reality this afternoon with the final vote passing the Senate. The first elections to follow this procedure will be the Court of Deputies in 2027 and voters will rank candidates according to their preference. Although, the voting ballots will be on paper and has sparked resistance from factions in the opposition, stating the ballot corruption that previously plagued the nation, this fact was dismissed by the Speaker as the last electoral fraud happened over 15 years ago. Premier Ferrant has voiced his excitement over the passed legislation, calling it “a step towards a fairer Viridia.”

With the comfortable majority of roughly 60% in the Congressional Courts, the governing coalition between Partido de Regeneración Social (PRS) & Movimiento de Unidad (MU) may very realise Premier Ferrant’s vision of a maximum 40-hours workweek. The opposition, namely the liberal Alianza de Comerciantes Libres (ACL), fears this will make Viridia less competitive on the international stage, but proponents have pointed out at the success of states that have introduced a four-day workweek like Eflad. However, the coalition remains open from input from the opposition to finetune the legislation in an effort to transform the 40-hours workweek into a new national & sustainable staple.
