Evinean President Aziz Traore held a press conference today regarding various topics such as the Parliament for Evinea movement, the Nuclear Energy Program, the legislative agenda and the current outlook of the nation’s involvement in the ongoing civil war in Emerald-Denver.
Press Conference
Aziz Traore: Hello ladies and gentlemen of the press. I will be answering your questions today so please be patient and I will try my best to get to your questions, and give a response accordingly. Due to current time constraints, there will be no follow-ups. Okay let’s start with… you.
Suzanna Kolipo (FSN): Hello, President Traore. Could you please give an update on the Nuclear Energy Program. We know that the recent Nulcear Weapons program was recently added, but what is the current status on the building of Nuclear Energy sites you announced in your last term?
Traore: The project headed ENEC (Evinean Nuclear Energy Commission) is currently being redetermined for the timeframe of completed projects. As known, the original plan is to add 20 power plants within the next five to seven years. Clearly, that was an ambitious goal as currently 10 of the planned 20 are under construction, with 4 in use, and the last 6 being planned. It is likely that the goal will be extended by approximately 8 to 12 years. We are determined to meet new renewable energy goals in this nation, and we even have plans to build a hydroelectric site on the Gulf of Evinea. As for now, we will maintain focus on nuclear energy. Next question.
Ethan Gatse (ENN): To focus on an entirely different topic, we would like to know what the government’s current stance on the nation’s desire to transition from a presidential republic to a parliamentary republic. This is in regards to the document released by Parliament of Evinea called “The Case for Parliament”. How do you plan on addressing the people’s desires?
Traore: After consideration from our government, and discussions with the current legislature, we believe there is currently enough demand for a referendum to be called considering the matter. We want to make sure Evineans have a chance to have there views represented in a way they deem necessary so we will not deny them the chance to do so. The referendum will be called at the end of this term. While the people in this government have their own opinions on a transition, we shall be impartial and allow the people to decide. This will be a very important journey every step of the way, and we will prepare ourselves for any decision. The Referendum will be questioned “Should Evinea Transition from a Presidential Republic to a Parliamentary Republic?”. Let’s go on to the next question.
Terrence Halundi (JNN): Onto other legislative news, is there any progress with some of the legislative agenda you wanted to pass? We understand there are three major pieces of legislation you wanted to pass, and if you could discuss them to some detail, that would be appreciated.
Traore: Our legislative agenda has been moving along accordingly, but out of the three pieces of legislation, two are ready to pass. The “Gender and Sexual Orientation Discrimination Act” and the “Military Budget Revision II Act”. To talk about the first one, while the nation does acknowledge same-sex marriage, unions, and whatnot, and recognizes LGBTQ+ folk, our nation needs to go further to help them. There needs to be codified laws in order to protect arguably the most discriminated people in our nation, to ensure that this nation is fit for all people, not just a select few. This act will ensure better coverage of all people, as people of all genders and sexual orientations should be protected under the law, whether that be in employment, schools, healthcare, etc.: we are here to do so. Next, the “Military Budget Revision II Act” is another increase to our military budget. With our expanding technology such as nuclear weapons and research into other technologies, we need hgher funding in order to keep up with our demand for national defense, and or ability to assist our allies. More personnel, more equipment, more technology will be able to acquired from a larger budget and this will be a positive overall. Lastly, the act that is currently still in a discussion stage is the “Increase to the Welfare State Act”. Currently, we are in a debate stage with the more conservative individuals of our government, so we need to talk more on where that funding will come from. We do believe there is a need for the poor to have better access to care, so we want to make sure they get the best resources possible. Okay, last question and then that will be all for today.
** Quincey Yaunzo (IN)**: Thank you for the opportunity to ask a question. My question is in regards to the Emerald-Denver Civil War. A few days ago, it was announced that King Joshua was killed by the Emeraldian Republican Front. How do you address this tragic killing in the wake of the war knowing that our nation is a Starhawk Pact member, an ally of Emerald-Denver?
Traore: First of all, on behalf of my administration, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the government of Emerald-Denver, and their nation regarding the death of their monarch, King Joshua. King Joshua was an upstanding member of Denverian society, being a great role model and leader for the nation. Now we would like to formally condemn the killing of the King at the hands of the Emeraldian Republican Front and Xander Sven. There brutal tactics have been known to us since our introduction into the Starhawk Pact. As an ally, I believe our nation needs to do much more to assist our friends in this war therefre, we we will announce a large-scale military task force that will be sent to Emerald-Denver to our base in their nation, if possible, to work alongside the Starhawk Pact, League of Cordilla and CE. We will not allow our ally to fall to the hands of terrorists. We will do our best to ensure our ally is assisted. to the best of our capabilities. Thank you for the questions today. I apologize for the lack of time which allowed for no chance for follow-up questions. Have a good day everyone.
