KGS Issues Volcano and Tsunami Watches Amid Heightened Seismic Activity
BREAKING— The Krauanagazan Geological Survey (KGS) has issued a Volcano Watch for Mount Alkantarak following a magnitude 6.1 quake 103 kilometers off the coast and increased volcanic gas emissions. Officials warn that the instability could potentially lead to an eruption, prompting emergency services to urge local communities to prepare contingency plans.
The areas affected by the Volcano Watch include major population centers in Krauanagaz and Zuhlgan such as Yayyára, Zaari, Zhranagaz, Ozákla, Myrzagul, and Lumayyaratal, with residents advised to stay alert and follow updates from local authorities.
Adding to the region’s concerns, a Tsunami Watch has been issued for much of coastal Krauanagaz and Lutavaras Arkas after a magnitude 6.1 underwater earthquake struck off the western coast near the West Continental Trench.
Emergency officials are advising residents in vulnerable coastal areas to prepare for possible evacuations and avoid low-lying regions until the situation stabilizes.
KGS spokesperson Liza Korr described the quake as, “shallow but potentially dangerous given its proximity to key coastal zones.” The agency is closely monitoring for any changes in ocean behavior that could signal the onset of a tsunami. Korr said the agency is committed to providing round-the-clock updates on both the volcanic unrest and the tsunami threat as new data emerges.
