On this day in 1905, Zuhlgan officially annexed Vithic Keyli through the Kingsland Treaty, ending the protracted and bloody Vithic-Zuhlgani War (1892–1905). The annexation marked Zuhlgan’s rise as a dominant regional power and the founding of the Okhoa Protectorate.

181 years ago today, a peaceful workers’ rally in Zhirveniayyaka Square turned into a bloodbath. Thousands had gathered to demand fair wages, safer conditions, and an end to child labor—many holding signs, singing songs, and marching alongside their families.
But instead of reforms, they were met with force.
Local authorities, backed by private security from major industrial firms, opened fire into the crowd. Chaos followed. By nightfall, 236 people were dead, including dozens of children.
The massacre shocked the nation and galvanized labor movements across Cordilia and beyond. Though justice for the victims was never delivered in full, the memory of that day helped spark labor protections and workers’ rights campaigns that would define a generation.
Today, we remember the lives lost—and the power of collective resistance in the face of injustice.

123 years ago today, Krauanaet Kevdak Morotra, leader of the newly ascendant Heritio Korosha (HK) regime, signed the Commonization Act into law, marking the official beginning of what would become known as The Apartheid Years in the Free Cordilian Confederacy.
The law laid the legal foundation for an apartheid regime designed to institutionalize Mitalldukish supremacy and suppress the Krautali people and certain minority communities across the Confederacy. With the stroke of a pen, segregation, economic exclusion, and cultural repression became state policy.
Entire Krautali communities were evicted from economically vital coastal and urban regions, relocated to impoverished, isolated “Common Zones.” Krautali citizens were barred from property ownership, skilled labor sectors, and access to education outside the zones. The law criminalized Krautali languages, religious rituals, and even traditional attire in public spaces.
This moment also marked a turning point in the Confederacy’s political evolution—from fractured federalism to a centralized police state, enforced by the newly established Internal Security Bureau (ISB) and paramilitary factions** such as the Mitalldukish National Front.
The consequences were devastating. Over the next decade, widespread surveillance, indentured labor, and state-sanctioned violence fueled resistance from Krautali communities, culminating in events like the Alkantara Massacre of 1910, and the eventual descent into decades of civil conflict.

On May 6, 1913, in response to the atrocities committed during the Second Uprising of Nayyatal, the provinces of Kevpríg, Lutavaras Arkas, and Krauana Lupriyra seceded from the Free Cordilian Confederacy . This decisive action led to the formation of the Southern Krauanagazan Democratic Coalition (SKDC), marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.
The Second Uprising of Nayyatal, which occurred from April 7 to April 20, 1913, saw the Heritio Korosha (HK) government forces launch a brutal campaign against Krautali settlements on the eastern side of Nayyatal Island. The offensive resulted in the deaths of approximately 22,500 Krautali civilians and the forced relocation of survivors to Kevluarital on Kevprital Island.
The secession of these provinces and the establishment of the SKDC were direct responses to the HK regime’s oppressive policies and actions. The formation of the SKDC not only signified a rejection of the existing government’s authority but also set the stage for the Krauanagazan Civil War, which would continue for decades.

On this day in 873 CE, Grand Duke Imrath III of Zuhlgaria was assassinated during a high-stakes diplomatic summit in the border town of Katang. A statesman known for his deft navigation of regional tensions and unwavering commitment to peace, Imrath had arrived in Katang to de-escalate rising hostilities following the brutal Katang Incident earlier that year.
Instead, he was cut down in full view of both Zuhlgani and Krauanagazan officials by assassins disguised as envoys— men later identified as members of the Obsidian Order, an extremist Krauanagazan faction bent on igniting war.
Wearing crimson armbands, the killers stabbed the Grand Duke in broad daylight, collapsing any remaining hope for peace between the two great powers of the peninsula. Imrath’s assassination proved not only a personal tragedy but a geopolitical disaster.
His son, the fiery Duke Orlan, declared immediate war on Krauanagaz, claiming the act was state-sanctioned. The assassination became the casus belli for a war that engulfed the Cordilian Peninsula for nearly two decades. The War of the Shattered Shields had begun.
The war soon pulled in the Mitalldukish Assemblies and the Barrier Islands, and opened the door to foreign interference, most notably from the emerging Zanatian Empire.

On May 14 of the year 231, the Battle of Eltun Fields took place. It was the first major engagement of the South Cordilian Wars (231–312 CE), fought on the fertile plains south of the Tatallagaz River in what is now northern Krauanagaz
As tensions over trade, territory, and influence reached a boiling point, a newly formed alliance of Krautali city-states, the League of Free Coastal Cities, faced off against the nomadic cavalry of the Great Plains Confederation, a coalition of Mitalldukish tribes expanding aggressively into southern Cordilia.
The confrontation began at dawn, with Krautali phalanxes and archers attempting to hold their lines against wave after wave of mounted Mitalldukish raiders. What followed was a brutal, day-long clash of discipline versus mobility, where neither side could claim decisive advantage.
Though indecisive, the battle marked the formal beginning of the South Cordilian Wars, a decades-long struggle that would redraw the political map of the peninsula.
In its aftermath both factions began courting new alliances, laying the groundwork for the complex web of coalitions that defined the conflict.

On this day in 1937, representatives from 13 Zarhamas signed the Spirit Treaty in Varekko, a landmark cultural compact that formally recognized shared land stewardship rites among river tribes. It also banned logging in sacred cedar groves. The ceremony involved burning riversage and the casting of silver reed tokens into Nahtié Bay.

Statement:
The Holy Dominion of Zuhlgan is closely monitoring the unlawful actions taken by the Okhoa Civil Defense Patrol. The seizure of military installations constitutes a direct violation of mutual security protocols and places both Dominion personnel and Okhoan civilians at risk.We reiterate our commitment to the constitutional transition process as agreed upon under the stipulations of the referendum. However, we will not tolerate threats to our personnel or the sanctity of Dominion property.
All parties must return to lawful dialogue. Premature aggression risks undoing the progress made through peaceful negotiation.

BREAKING: Sources say the Okhoa Regional Council authorized the OCDP raids after receiving credible intelligence that Zuhlgani forces were attempting to extract classified military hardware and data from three key bases in violation of pending evacuation protocols tied to the post-referendum withdrawal negotiations.
The same anonymous sources within the OCDP report that intercepted communications suggested Zuhlgani personnel were preparing to move sealed containment canisters rumored to hold bioagents, experimental vaccine strains, or old chemical weapons from the last regime.

BREAKING: Reports from southern Mitallduk indicate there has been a significant explosion at a humanitarian aid distribution point, operated and defended by Zuhlgani forces. Eyewitnesses near the town of Yattahar described a “massive fireball” followed by sustained gunfire. Preliminary estimates suggest dozens of casualties, including aid workers and civilians queuing for food and medical supplies. No group has yet claimed responsibility, but the area has seen recent clashes between resistance fighters and Dominion-aligned security units. The World Forum has called for immediate access to assess the damage and ensure the safety of relief corridors.

117 years ago today (July 25, 1908), the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) implemented one of its most sweeping and oppressive tools of control: the Free Cordilian Confederacy Ethnic Registry. Framed as a national security measure, the registry quickly became a mechanism for systemic discrimination, surveillance, and erasure of minority identities across the Confederacy.
The registry cataloged the ethnic backgrounds, religious affiliations, and cultural ties of millions— data that would later be used to justify mass arrests, purges, forced relocations, and the denial of basic rights.
Historians now mark the creation of the registry as a turning point in the ISB’s transformation from intelligence agency to enforcer of ethnic repression. The move drew early but ultimately futile appeals from international human rights advocates, as regional ISB offices used the registry to enact bans on language instruction, dismantle community centers, and intensify crackdowns on dissent.
Today, it stands as a chilling reminder of how bureaucracy can be weaponized against entire populations.

Drian Vollat is the Mayor of Ka’atria. A city in northern Okhoa.
We understand the joy and emotion many are feeling today, but I must urge our residents: please celebrate responsibly.
A 10-meter statue of a Zuhlgani admiral was toppled near Vekar Square this afternoon— while the symbolism is not lost, 37 individuals, some heavily intoxicated, are now en route to the hospital, several with serious injuries.
This is your city, your streets, your future. Let’s build it up, not tear it down— at least not without professionals and a permit.
