Chair of the Assembly
Statement from the Chair on Leave of Absence (LoA) requests and the passage of A2412.01

Hi all, just a quick statement with regards to the passage of A2412.01, a bill that modifies the way in which Leave of Absence (LoA) requests are handled within the Assembly. I’m going to quickly go over what is changing, and more importantly what this means for you.

Background details and the changes:

As you are hopefully aware, this bill A2412.01 amends the Citizenship and Legislator’s acts individually. These amendments end the separate Leave of Absence (LoA) system used by the Assembly. Before the passage of this bill, an individual would need to file separate Leave of Absence (LoA) requests with both the Citizenship Committee, through the Citizenship Office, and the Office of the Chair, through the Office of Assembly Affairs. With this bill’s passage, this process of filing two separate requests has been changed. Now an individual only needs to file a request with the Citizenship Committee.

What this means for you:

This bill’s passage makes the Leave of Absence (LoA) process easier for legislators, as only one request is required, the Office of the Chair will handle the duplication of this request to an individuals legislative profile. No other actions are required from you. As such, any Leave of Absence (LoA) requests filed within the Office of Assembly Affairs from now will be rejected.

I hope this helps answer any questions you may have. If you require further insight or details, please don’t hesitate to ask below.

Yours faithfully,
BlockBuster2K43, Chair of the Assembly

Is this where I change my caucus affiliation? If so, I would like to change to a pieist.

Chair of the Assembly
Statement from the Chair on the passage of CN2501

Legislators,

I am humbled to stand before you as Chair for the 50th Presidium of this august body. The Assembly is the heart of legislative power in our democratic system of government, and I pledge to be impartial in executing my duties for as long as I remain Chair, so that all legislators can benefit from having a space for robust debate over the issues that affect our Coalition.

I will like to thank former Chair @BlockBuster2K43 for their long service as Chair and formerly as Deputy Chair, and for giving me the opportunity to enter Assembly leadership and preparing me to take on this role. Their example will continue to guide how I act in this Presidium.

I will like to formally appoint @Welly as Deputy Chair during this Presidium as well. They need no introduction to this body, and I will benefit greatly from their wealth of legislative experience and knowledge in my decision-making. Their role will continue to be as-is in the previous term, assisting me in the day-to-day running of Assembly business.

My door is open to all legislators, especially for those who have an interest in being a part of Assembly leadership, and even more so for those who are new to this body and are unaware of what they can do as a legislator. Do reach out to me whenever you have any questions. Thank you!

Chair of the Assembly
Statement from the Chair on retention votes

The Chair of the Assembly would like to hereby give notice to the following new procedures in order to comply with the recent passage of A2502.01:

(1) A separate debate topic on each category of Assembly-confirmed offices subject to retention votes will be launched by the Chair or the Deputy Chair in the Assembly on March 10th, which is 5 days before the commencement of the retention vote.

  1. During this debate period, the Chair or the Deputy Chair will provide a list of all officials within a specific category that are subject to a retention vote, and Legislators, Citizens and general members of the public can verify if this list is complete and accurate.
  2. If discussion on retention requires the discussion of sensitive topics, any Legislator may create a topic in the Private Halls subcategory of the forum to address these sensitive topics, subject to usual declassification rules.

(2) On the commencement of retention votes on March 15th, separate voting topics for each category of Assembly-confirmed offices will be opened, whereby each official subject to a retention vote will have an individual vote on their retention.

  1. Following precedent on Cabinet appointment votes, for the purposes of Legislator Act 3(3), all retention votes are collectively considered as a single vote, and voting on at least one official’s retention vote will suffice for the purposes of not being absent for the retention votes.

(3) According to present legislation, the categories of Assembly-confirmed offices that are subject to retention votes are:

  1. the Council on Regional Security;
  2. the Citizenship Committee;
  3. the High Court;
  4. the Admiralty.

These procedures are subject to modification over time, either due to changes in existing legislation or other recommendations. All comments are welcome.

Yours faithfully,
lordnwahs, Chair of the Assembly

Can I join a committee? If yes how?

This is not the area for queries regarding how to attain a particular office. You should review the relevant parts of the Charter, or direct your queries to specific members of the relevant bodies.

Done. Legislators are reminded that Assembly queries outside of applications should be done in this topic.
