Chair of the Assembly
Statement from the Chair on retention votes

The Chair of the Assembly would like to hereby give notice to the following new procedures in order to comply with the recent passage of A2502.01:

(1) A separate debate topic on each category of Assembly-confirmed offices subject to retention votes will be launched by the Chair or the Deputy Chair in the Assembly on March 10th, which is 5 days before the commencement of the retention vote.

  1. During this debate period, the Chair or the Deputy Chair will provide a list of all officials within a specific category that are subject to a retention vote, and Legislators, Citizens and general members of the public can verify if this list is complete and accurate.
  2. If discussion on retention requires the discussion of sensitive topics, any Legislator may create a topic in the Private Halls subcategory of the forum to address these sensitive topics, subject to usual declassification rules.

(2) On the commencement of retention votes on March 15th, separate voting topics for each category of Assembly-confirmed offices will be opened, whereby each official subject to a retention vote will have an individual vote on their retention.

  1. Following precedent on Cabinet appointment votes, for the purposes of Legislator Act 3(3), all retention votes are collectively considered as a single vote, and voting on at least one official’s retention vote will suffice for the purposes of not being absent for the retention votes.

(3) According to present legislation, the categories of Assembly-confirmed offices that are subject to retention votes are:

  1. the Council on Regional Security;
  2. the Citizenship Committee;
  3. the High Court;
  4. the Admiralty.

These procedures are subject to modification over time, either due to changes in existing legislation or other recommendations. All comments are welcome.

Yours faithfully,
lordnwahs, Chair of the Assembly
