Statement from the Chair defining the powers of the Deputy Chair of the Assembly


Pursuant to sub-section 6, of section 2 of the Legislative Procedure Act. The Chair of the Assembly designates the following powers that can be exercised by the Deputy Chair of the Assembly without the prior consent of the Chair, any other actions/powers of the Chair not defined below are outwith the authority and competence of the office of the Deputy Chair within the Assembly:

  • Working on any assignments/projects designated to the Deputy Chair by the Chair of the Assembly.

  • Opening/Closing voting for legislative items.

  • Amending/Adding both topic tags, and identifying information for debate and voting topics.

  • Approving/Rejecting Leave of Absence’s (LoA) requests.

  • Approving/Rejecting Legislator Applications.

  • Closing/Opening topics both past and present when relevant.
