ProfessorHenn and I spoke today and agreed that a change of leadership for the Ministry of Culture is in the best interests of the region and they’ll be ceasing to operate in that role effective immediately. Henn and I both started the term with an aggressive vision for the Ministry: pursuing a Question of the Day program, continually updating on-site Polls through the Ministry of Culture, wrapping up SPHL and launching a new sports-based cultural initiative, and empowering Culture staff to lead their own smaller cultural events. Unfortunately, due to real life taking much of Henn’s time and attention, there has not been sufficient progress in these areas, and we agreed that fresh leadership will be better able to execute on this agenda. I wish Henn all the best.
With that, I am nominating @xshotss as Minister of Culture. Their remit will be the same as the one I entrusted ProfessorHenn with at the beginning of the term:
As part of that, we hope to launch the Question of the Day initiative, smaller cultural events, and set strong groundwork for the region to succeed in Z-Day this year. After discussing the agenda with Shots, and looking at their past successes as Minister of Integration, I have confidence they will be able to execute on this vision, although I will play a major supporting role (especially for Z-Day). @Aidenfieeld will continue as Deputy Minister of Culture with a specific remit for The South Seas Gazette.
Both the Minister of Culture nominee and I are open to questions.
Thank you to HS for the opportunity to serve as Minister of Culture. And thanks to Henn for their efforts, I hope to still work with them during my term.
Once again reiterating that myself and HS are open to any questions you might have.
I have had the pleasure of working with shots in quite a few capacities – working both over and under him as MoI, transitioning into his role, in the SPSF, and on technical work this term. He is organized and persistent. He is professional yet lighthearted. I think he makes a great candidate to jump into the hot seat mid-term, and when voting opens, I would urge my fellow Assembly members to confirm.
I look forward to seeing Jay as Minister of Culture. In my time in the cabinet they have been a great contributor to the executive and to the region, and I believe they’ll make a great MoC.
As you know, I’m the nominee for Minister of Culture. I decided to write up a quick agenda just to show you what we will be working on this (relatively short) term. I also think it’s good for accountability and I like to use it as a to-do list—just keep in mind that my term is only around 1 month long, so this isn’t a full fledged culture agenda. As always, I’m open to any questions you might have.
Question of the Day initiative: I will be working with the Culture team to fully implement the question of the day initative, where we ask one question everyday on the RMB to bring about engagement in the region. I’m hoping to create some system where citizens can also contribute and add their own QotD ideas, similar to the system we have in place for polls. However, unlike polls, we will maintain some sort of database or document to store all of the QotD ideas. (See: Submit Your Polls Here! for an example on how that would work)
Cultural events: This is split into two parts: large-scale events and small-scale events. For large-scale events, finishing SPHL is of utmost importance. And just like HS stated in the original nomination message, we will be exploring other sports-based cultural initiatives.
Regarding small-scale events, this is a point I want to focus on a lot more during my tenure. We will be hosting a wide variety of smaller games and discord VC nights. While I will be hosting these using my own ideas and concepts, I will also be prioritizing the facilitation of hosting other people’s event ideas.
Polls: I will see to it that a new system is in place to ensure we are getting the highest quality of polls, and that we don’t run the same poll again. I’m thinking of doing card giveaways for people with innovative and clever ideas for polls, and I will chuck in my own poll ideas if we are running dry.
Z-Day: I will work with the Prime Minister and the wider cabinet to ensure we have a better foundation and a more successful Z-Day this year.
FAQ
Do you have any plans for TSSG?
The publication of the South Seas Gazette is handled by my deputy minister @DivineOwl, in which he has done a wonderful job. I have no specific plans to change how TSSG is published or written, it has been doing great and I want to keep going with the flow.
Will you be staying as deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs?
Yes, I will be remaining as Deputy MoFA for the remainder of this term, mostly because it’s a very laid-back position that I can easily multitask with culture work, and that I also just like being deputy MoFA. I will also be remaining on the Foreign Affairs Council.
Thank you for the update and the agenda. I believe, based on what I have seen, Jay would be great for MoC. Community engagement is something I am personally passionate about and is one of the reasons I have stuck around in both TSP and NS and I believe Jay will do an outstanding job at keeping the community engaged and involved.
