Please find below a first draft of new rules and clarifications for a resumed A1-0 canon. This is a wiki post, meaning you can edit. If you do, please clarify in this thread. Also, feel free to discuss specifics in this thread. Once as many as possible agree, we formally adopt the rules and get going RPing in A1-0 again!
Merging or splitting plots shall not be allowed except for when a player does so within their own plot and when no other nation grows as a result
Map claims shall provide a general outline of intended lore and stats, see Moderation panel below
A new claim is added on the map once the moderation panel has approved the nation
Stats
Plot sizes (cross-section area and volume) will be calculated and listed. The amount of stars and planets will be listed as well (based on stellar densities etc as previously discussed)
One non-player nation shall be created which will serve as a reference for a medium-high ranked nation
No fixed caps. Consent rules apply; e.g. if a player has their nation attack another player’s nation with 1000 times more ships, the player with the nation under attack is free to assume that those 1000 ships will be of a inferior quality for balancing purposes
Moderation panel
A moderation panel shall be created that will consist of about three volunteers that shall help newcomers by checking the map claim and help guide them to align with the canon. They shall also be consulted when retconning or updating one’s nation
The panel shall be approved by the community
Non-player nations
We keep the large non-player nations where they are, but we rename them and make a new basic lore for them. At least one of them shall serve as a stat reference nation as mentioned above
The small NPNs (aka the Tiyanki ones) are removed and we let the plot be a region that is difficult to traverse and largely unexplored, making it possible to add Tiyanki-style nations in the future should we want
Any non-player nation and their lore are communal property, no single player shall be able to retcon or remove them
I forgot about that. How about we use the same letters but apply a different meaning so that we don’t have to change it everywhere? Like Before/After Bargained Time or Broad Time or something (BBT and ABT) or something else starting with a B?
I remember @Flaming had wanted to have something like an extra canon where the sector got invaded, it could be something related to that, although I understand that that may not be happening or have an affect on the canon-lore. (Could be stuff like Before/After -B species name- Tyranny or Before/After -BT species name-)
I feel like if we’re going to do Before/After, it should have some umph. It works better when there’s a specific thing that’s “Before/After,” especially because it’s After and not During that time. Going off of this:
The small NPNs (aka the Tiyanki ones) are removed and we let the plot be a region that is difficult to traverse and largely unexplored, making it possible to add Tiyanki-style nations in the future should we want
It could be something like “Before/After Breached Titanki/Territories”
I think that would work. It could be so that before the year 0 ABT, nobody can have their nation acting as an outside force in the Territories, allowing us to all start in the same playing field in terms of having influence within them.
Yes. I’d argue that they aren’t much different as a stat from number ships in the star navy for example. Though I think the reference NPN should provide a reasonable number that others can base theirs on.
I would say it’d be better to start sometime in 5-1 BBT so we can take more time to establish our lore before introducing the technology/method that makes the Tiyanki Territories accessible. Kind of like a trial phase to work out the kinks in our new lore before adding the influence to or from the TT nations
For the sake of continuity, it would be best to keep time the same as it is now. We can always introduce the TT later once we agree on a way to make that happen
Another idea I had for this, assuming we do the time as Before/After Breached Territories or whatever, is that it’s a NPN that navigates into it first, therefore making it so that none of us have that advantage, and then it would allow us to keep that date even if we personally don’t enter the TT at that time
