I don’t really see why we shouldn’t keep using Flaming’s one. Besides, a couple of the new nations have already been described there by their roleplayers.

Did you want to make a new one so that it wouldn’t have pre-wipe posts?

It’s about preserving all our old posts, yeah

Then wouldn’t continuing to use the old topic with those posts in question be much better at preserving them then starting to use a new one?

By continuing to use Flaming’s we would keep them in a relevant topic that new roleplayers can see to get a taste of what pre-wipe A1-0 was like.

Preserving = maintain (something) in its original or existing state

no

You can go look through something, but I aim to preserve old A1-0, which means you can retire the old one, if anything we ought to add an official (pre-wipe) (post-wipe) tag so we don’t confuse new roleplayers

I do agree about adding a tag.

With the lore reset it is not that bad of a idea to make a new thread for this too and “archive” the other one so to say. We did the same for short stories.

Let’s move this to Low Hanging Fruit so we don’t clog up this thread

Science Directorate of the Velvet Rose
The Directorate, the Velvet Rose, SDVR

Overview
The Science Directorate of the Velvet Rose is the farthest spinwards rimwards nation in A1-0. The Velvet Rose is in the Serniani Nebula, an area treacherous to travel through by real and interdimensional faster than light, on par with a badlands. Leaving the Nebula and ending their isolation, the Serniani are ready to face other nations in the sector.

Government
The Velvet Rose is divided into three branches of government

  • Rose Senate (Legislative)
  • Arbitration Committee of the Directorate (Judicial)
  • Office of the Director-General (Executive)

The Velvet Rose is subdivided into Prefectures, each prefecture is led by prefects, appointed by the planets, stations, and military posts (For planets and stations, they’d vote, for military installations, it’d be the highest ranked officer). Prefects appoint a Senior Prefect to represent them in the Rose Senate.

Culture
Serniani are very matriarchal, and sometimes look down on other species with masculine traits. They are extreme materialists, going to great lengths to acquire foreign technology and reverse engineer it.

Religion
Serniani are agnostic, although some follow minor religions.

History
Serniani History dates back 20,000 years, on their homeworld of Aleksoria. After around 2500 years, Serniani achieved faster than light, activating the first Gate Relay Node between the Aleksoria System and the Irivani System. This process sped up exponentially, the first out of Nebula Transit occurred in 13000 BBT, encountering the first non Serniani life, the Valseni. In 7500 BBT, the Nexus was discovered.

Economy
The Velvet Rose operates a mixed economy command leaning economy, with a large ship building industry, weapons contractors, and a large science base. That being said, private businesses do exist, and some are very successful, but are heavily regulated to prevent monopolies.

Trade
Serniani trade with Calerost, and maintain trade associations with their protectorates, usually free trade agreements, visa-free travel

Military

The Velvet Rose’s military forces (Called the Velvet Rose Defense Forces, sometimes the Directorate Defense Forces) are separated into two major forces, four uniformed services, two civilian units, two reserve forces, and three non military commissioned corps. These are;

Naval Defense Force (NDF)
–Velvet Marine Corps (VMC)

Ground Defense Force (GDF)
–Littoral Patrol Corps (LPC)

Civilian Service
–Civilian Auxiliary
–Merchant Marine

Reserves
–System Defense Forces (Ground & Navy)

Non Military Commissioned Corps
–Health Corps
–Space Weather Administration
–Commissioned Diplomatic Corps

Conflicts

Valseni War (link not Available, soon)

Skirmish at Atlia

FTL

SkipSpace - Traditional IFTL (needs elaboration later)

Nexus - A dimension of computer data, with so-called ‘Nexus Lines’ creating conditions for train-like FTL.

Gate Relay Node - Gate travel through the Nebula

Republic of United Worlds

Overview
The RUW is located in the northwestern part of the sector. It a young nation, founded 3 years ago (3 BBT). It is a confederacy of several member states, that function as separate entities, however they must abide to all federal level resolutions and cannot conduct diplomacy with states outside of the Republic. Each inhabited world receives one seat in the Senate (except special cases). The Republic also has a President who is elected in a popular vote of all citizens, but doesn’t posses much power and is just a figurehead.

Culture
The Republic doesn’t have a single culture, as each world often has multiple. However, there are some common traits. People of the Republic are known to be resilient. They have a very strong sense of duty towards defence of the Republic, especially against foreign aggression. AIs are often viewed with suspicion and are regarded as dangerous.

Religion
The Republic has multiple religions, often multiple per world, but a large percentage of the population (mostly humans and darkons) is atheist. The federal government is fully secular and prefers to not get involved with religious matters.

History
The lands that now make up the Republic used to be a part of the Grand Commissariat of Enver. It was a totalitarian and xenophobic state, which enslaved its non-Envari population which it conquered a couple centuries prior.

In 10 BBT the reigning Grand Commissar died and a new one, Hoxha, was appointed. He was a part of a small group of liberals, which disagreed with the Comissariat’s xenophobia and totalitarian structure. He was overthrown in a coup led by a popular Admiral, Iskander. He was the exact opposite of Hoxha and advocated for the complete eradication of xenos. After the successful coup, he pronounced himself Grand Imperator of Enver

Hoxha managed to flee and retain the loyalty of a portion of the fleet and the Envari special forces, Black Guard Commandos. He staged slave revolts on several worlds, begging the Rebellion. Most Envari naval assets were destroyed while still docked as a result of sabotage. Due to both sides having limited naval assets, most battles were fought on land, often devolving into brutal campaigns of trench warfare, sometimes lasting months.

The Rebellion ended in 3 BBT after the Battle of Enver. On the same planet the Republic was proclaimed and its constitution amended. After that Iskander was executed and Enver cracked.

What followed was a period of chaos. Poverty, famine and disease plagued the ruined Republic. Moreover, as discontent rose among the people of the Republic, many states experienced popular revolts or coups by military leaders returning from the Rebellion. These events triggered a complicated web of alliances and political interests, beginning the League Wars (it’s technically multiple wars, but they eventually merged into one). Without a consensus in the Senate, the Republic wasn’t able to directly intervene, only sending minor humanitarian aid.

After some fighting, three factions arose. The Democratic Alliance, composed of various democratic states. The League, grouping fascists, monarchists and other dictators. And the USPR (Union of Socialist Planetary Republics), a single state formed from a union of various sociallist nations. The conflict is still ongoing, but the Democratic Alliance is on the verge of surrender, while the League and the USPR have drawn into a stalemate.

In this chaos, a terrorist organization, the Red Hand, was formed. It advocates for human supremacy (humans are the largest racial group), as well as genetic and mental purity. Anybody who doesn’t conform with their standards is killed on sight. Many people are drawn to it for the prospect of escaping the poverty, chaos and promises of a better future.

Economy
The Republic operates a free market economy with little regulation, but individual states are free to pass their own regulations and operate different economic systems. The federal market is divided between multiple medium to large corporations. Despite the lax regulations, monopolies weren’t able to form thanks to protectionist policies of many larger nations.

Trade
Trade is quite active between various states of the Republic, but it is often difficult due to the ongoing League Wars and extensive piracy. Which is why most trade outside of larger and more powerful states is handled by corporations or local merchant guilds.

Military
The Republic maintains a very small navy of around 5000 ships and a small but elite ground force of Republic Commandos. The military is controlled by the Marshall and the Ministry of Defense. However, major military operations have to be approved by the Senate.

Each state is allowed to posses its own military, which often consist of only a small ground force, as only the richest states can build/buy and maintain a permanent navy. Most often civilian vessels are seized and converted to military vessels when necessary.

Conflicts
The Republic is currently involved in two internal conflicts. A “war” against the Red Hand and the League Wars.

FTL
Quantum Drive - This device allows a ship to use quantum mechanics to travel at FTL speeds. It also allows it to enter an alternate dimension (name TBD) that forms “pockets” inside of realspace. In these “pockets” a ship can travel much faster due to different physics, but is cut off from the outside world except for brief moments when it jumps between these “pockets”.

Twilight Ascendancy
TwAs

Overview
The Twilight Ascendency is a star nation in relative proximity to the Tiyanki Territories and the border with A0-0. The star nation contains rich staches of Old Kind technology, which is actively being hunter down by the Twila. Despite having the ability to make greater use of the energy in the Star Nation, TwAs maintains limits on it’s emissions so as to be harder to find.

Government
The government of TwAs is known simply as the Alumai, or more specifically as the Upper and Regional Alumai. The Upper Alumai is an unelected council made up of the most exceptional in their field. The Regional Alumai exist for the empowerment and safety of each region and are elected councils of UA-approved candidates who were born in or naturalized to the region. Despite all occupations having a place in the Upper Alumai, only select fields are granted seats with Executive, Judicial, and/or Legislative power.

Culture
The Twila are naturally curious and love a mystery. However, they exercise great care and will always take their time to gather the relevant data before pushing forward. Science is a highly valued study in their society, with the arts being appreciate, albeit to a lesser degree. Perhaps the best way to describe the culture is temperance, moderation and self-restraint.

Religion
The Twila are entirely atheist. Perhaps that’s for the best.

History
The days before 5074 are shrouded in mystery, unknown to all but those in the Upper Alumai. Since its founding, the TwAs has seen many ups and downs, ranging from the trauma of 5052 and the Dresk Terror to the rediscovery of the Transmutation in 2981 and the recovery and reverse-engineering of lost Old Kind relics.

Economy
TwAs has a mixed economy, with a strong private and public sector. The government runs its industries to ensure its citizens will always have access to their minimum basic needs or more. The private sector is there to provide goods and services that the government does not, letting people spend their money to increase their quality of life and buy indulgences.

Trade
TBA

Military
TwAs’s military is designed solely with the intent for self-defense, as TwAs’s diplomatic protocols make it unlikely, if not impossible, for it to be the aggressor. That’s not to say its military is weak; quite the opposite really. TwAs’s military is split between two branches, depending on whether they operate in or out of atmosphere.

Conflicts
None in Twila memory (as of writing)

FTL
Carriaging - named for the old practice of mounting additional thrusters to an exploratory vessel to reach near-light speeds, carriaging has come to refer to TwAs’s method of real-space FTL.

Antechambers - derived from Old Kind technology, the “antechambers” are portals used for Gateway FTL

Rehy

Overview
Rehy is located in the South East corner of A1-0 (map wise). Rikeuninerd are currently the only race in Rehy, they are hemaphrodits, their home planet being Ruka. Originally a military alliance made up of several nations, it now functions as one nation with subdivisions. Notably Rehy is a direct democracy, having a currencyless economy adhering to syndicalism, while also supporting a powerful military.

Government
Direct democracy, Rehy has government subdivisions.

Culture
Rehy holds many different Rikeuninerda cultures. Across all Rikeuninerda cultures, there is a lack of materialism, environmental protection is viewed as vital, knowledge is seen as a great power, and military tradition is heavily honoured. Many cultures live underground, a practice that can be seen on inhabited planets, and due to dietary requirements fishing culture is large.

Religion
Religion is not mandated in Rehy and no national religion is recognised. Scayiaa is a major religion practiced by 21% of Rehy’s population.

Scayiaa is an ancient religion, originating from Scayikra at 50’000 BBT. The religion has many sects, but across all it’s said that habitable deserts are sacred “scar lands” and belief directly affects the deities plane of existence.

History
9’556-9’543 BBT: Yeea conflict
9’543 BBT: Screea forms Rehy

Vandalence Compact
VC, The Compact, Vandalence

Overview
A smaller sized nation located in the mid-rimwards-leewards of A1-0, the Vandalence Compact borders the Voidsea to the south, a pirate infested area known for it’s abundant natural resources and equally abundant piracy problem. To the North, the Compact borders the Dovian Star Confederation, and to the west, the Regunessian Expanse. The Compact is looking to seek out and forge relationships with other nations, and defend their claims when needed.

Government
The Compact is divided into three branches of government

  • Compact Congress (Legislative)
  • High Court of the Compact (Judicial)
  • Office of the First Minister (Executive)

Subdivided into Clusters, each Cluster is led by their respective electorate, who sends a delegation to the Compact Congress.

Compact Law → Cluster Law → System Law → Celestial Body Law

Culture
Clusters each have their own rich history, and it’s hard to identify a prevailing one.

Religion
Vandals are agnostic, although some follow minor religions.

History
Vandalence is a rather small and sprawling nation that dates back to around 1500 years ago. Formed as a splinter group from other colonial efforts in the region, the Vandalence Compact grew from trading partnerships and defensive treaties over the course of 1000 years, eventually integrating and solidifying other smaller nations into a loose confederation of systems. Eventually, the nation slowed then stopped her expansion as nations on the periphery rejected joining. From there, the nation has thrived.

Economy
Vandalence is a mixed economy, with a strong shipbuilding industry, often constructing ships for smaller nations, with superior quality compared to other shipyards in other nations. In other aspects however, Vandalence is behind slightly, but is rapidly catching up to the sector standard.

Trade
N/A TBD

Military
The Compact Armed Forces, are split into two major uniformed services, two civilian services, and two commissioned corps. Conscription is mandatory for all able-bodied citizens, regardless of gender and species. Consciousness Objectors, though rare, are placed in non combat positions (logistics, medical, etc.)

Uniformed Services
Compact Navy
-Marine Corps

Celestial Defense Force
-Aerospace Forces

Civilian Services
Merchant Marine
Civilian Auxilliary

Non-Military Commissioned Corps
Health & Public Safety Corps
Space Weather Administration
Commissioned Diplomatic Corps

Reserve Services
Cluster Defense Forces
-System Defense Forces

Conflicts

Pirate Wars (499 → 474 BBT)

Operation Stalwart Shield (299 BBT → 211 BBT)

FTL
Vandelence and the smaller nations to it’s south use Silverspace, a form of Inter-Dimensional Faster than Light. Accessing it requires an access missile, which when fired tears a hole (‘Portal’) into Silverspace. Silverspace emits high amounts of a yet undiscovered resource that is highly corrosive, which degrades and destroys ships without shielding. Efforts to research this resource as of now are in vain. Permanent structures have been erected in silverspace, often anchored to important locations in the real world, like Horizon Gate.

Osprian Dominate

Overview
The Osprian Dominate is a star nation within the central region of Sector A1-0 bound in traditions & rituals of honour. Serving as an interstellar example of hereditary timocracy, the Dominate is a long-standing star nation with a unique social structure that shapes every aspects of its citizens’ prosperous lives on tens of thousands of worlds.

Government
The Osprian Dominate is an unconventional parliamentary constitutional monarchy with mazes of honourbound traditions. The Domirax, colloquially translated as Emperor, is not a mere ceremonial monarch, but one with elaborate executive powers and the manifestation of the 10,000-year old Skavirian dynasty. The Emperor, Rokhorro XXI, is deemed the central authority not only in politics, but also honour.

Under the monarch serves the High Court of Prelates, known as the Prelature. The Prelature serves as the executive branch with officials appointed by the Osprian legislature. These Prelates are appointed separately and hold office so long as they can assume the confidence in the legislature. Each Prelate presides over a Prelacy in charge of the administration of government departments similar to ministries. The head of the Prelature is known as the Chancellor who is appointed by the monarch and confirmed by the legislature.

The legislature of the Osprian Dominate is the Dominate Senate. It is a unicameral legislature where representatives are elected through preferential voting. Each Estate (equivalent to fiefdom or state) elects only one Senator, but their vote is proportional to their constituent estate’s population & size. Only members of the honourbound aristocracy, known as the Gentry, are eligible to be elected. Consequently, one can become part of the Gentry through merit recognised by local Honour Councils. As such, the Senate doesn’t have any standing political factions and instead consists of direct representatives.

The Dominate Senate on Oraka.

Dominate law is ultimately supervised over by the Supreme Honour Tribunal which oversees not only the constitution, but also the Code of Honour. The Tribunal serves as the highest judicial authority and consists of the High Arbiters, appointed by the monarch and confirmed by the Senate.

Culture
The Osprians evolved from apex flightless birds on the vast savannas of their homeworld Oraka and continue to maintain their dominion across all the worlds they colonise. However, what truly characterises the Osprians is their honourable culture that stands proudly unlike anything else seen in the Sector, giving birth to a meritocratic nobility through elaborate codes of honour. Central to this is the ancient Code of Honour, stipulated by the first Emperor Kaelrix’thar, which codified the honour systems into a universal one. When one is gentrified, the suffix -thar is added to their given name which is the equivalent of Sir or Lady within Terran cultures.

The Code of Honour consists the so-called 9 Springs of Honour:

  • Loyalty: To remain loyal to one’s community and its Gentry if they follow the Code of Honour. Thus, domestic aggressors towards fellow Osprians should not be followed, as the ultimate community is that of the Osprian species.
  • Courage: To take initiative within one’s field and pursuing a general form of guardianship of one’s community. This also extends to those who tarnish the honour code with malicious content and those disrespectful of fellow Osprians, as one should stand up to them as part of personal and collective integrity.
  • Justice: To uphold the laws and customs of a community while respecting those of other communities when visiting.
  • Benevolence: To uphold kindness to one’s community through empathy.
  • Dignity: To respect for all dignified Osprians (those following the Code of Honour), including oneself. The actions of one single individual contribute to the overall dignity of the wider Osprian species. Those who denigrate other Osprians with malicious intent or harm others don’t deserve the same social reverence as the dignified and should be kept at a distance by all or rehabilitated. If they pose violent harm to fellow Osprians, they should be brought to justice, as prescribed by codified laws.
  • Dedication: To pursue one’s path/specialisation through rigorous self-discipline and excelling at it. This doesn’t necessarily have to be martial.
  • Integrity: To live up to the Code of Honour and one’s own morals, no matter the circumstances.
  • Reputation: To maintain and improve the reputation of one’s family and clan. Should one bring unbearable shame, one may choose to repent for it and this varies depending on the Osprian cultures.
  • Deference: To accept one’s role within society. Not only in civic matters, but also within a company or even family that typically ascribes to a specific gender.

Species
Osprians are a bipedal dioecious sapient avian species with slight sexually dimorphic characteristics. Naturally, the Osprians live up to 90 years, but thanks to widespread genetic prolongevity therapy, Osprian nowadays live up to 180 years. Furthermore, as the Osprians trotted across the stars, their many races diverged into several subspecies. These subspecies aren’t considered inferior by any measure, but an extension of the larger Osprian species. As such, the Osprian Dominate consists of a vast variety of Osprian offshoots each known for their peculiar appearances among which flourish the Skelarians, Korrathians, Kaeryxians & Nyxarians.

Osprian High Admiral, Rhakarrax’thar Cirrokh’Kiirna.

Due to strong bones and stolid feathers, the Osprians had little trouble to acclimatise to all corners of their homeworld and have proven remarkably versatile in their colonisation efforts, hunting on all kinds of prey with their heightened vision and depth perception. Osprian diet therefore is largely carnivorous, but the species can digest plants.

The Osprians are a monogamous species with a core family within the larger clan structure. This is reflected in their names with the first part being their family name and the second part that of their clan following matronymic patterns. E.g. the Shiro’Tronik surname means the individual is part of the Shiro family within the Tronik clan. Clan structures are highly hierarchical, with one dominant family overseeing the social affairs of the extended family. These central families often bear the prefix Tik as the first part of their surname (e.g. Tik’Tronik) to denote their primacy within the clan. Typically, these clan structures have distinct patriarchal and matriarchal roles, but these may vary depending on the Osprian culture. Notably, these social norms have become vastly more liberal than what ancient Osprians were accustomed to.

A Skelarian mother and her chicks.

Religion
Osprian religions are largely decentralised and shrouded in shamanism. Honour still plays an important role and is personified as starlight. As a rite of passage, Osprians are given a Star Crystal that represents their shining honour. These mystical crystals wane and shine depending on one’s merits, emanating their status according to the Code of Honour.

Skraishenism is the predominant strand of Osprian religions with roughly 58% of the population following this creed. The remainder follow faiths with similar doctrines.

An Osprian Star Crystal.

History
The Osprian Dominate finds its roots in thousands of years or rich history on their homeworld of Oraka. The stars had always called to the Osprians as the embodiment of honour and the sprawling Osprian nations didn’t hesitate to flock to the stars. Yet, the new realities of governing a juvenile star nation proved quarrelsome with the discovery of the exotic mineral known as Skrailite. This mineral transformed Osprian society into a true star nation with the manipulation of gravitoelectromagnetic fields, allowing not only for artificial gravity, but also faster-than-light travel. This newly found application sparked the Stellar Flock, spreading numerous Osprian colonists across new independent nations.

As the colonies developed their own cultures, they began to clash with the ancestral ones from Oraka. Brutal conflicts arose and the Osprian civilisation faced extinction again in a maze of honourbound bureaucracy. It was under the leadership of Kaelrix’thar Kair’Skorr that the Great Unification reunited all Osprians under one rule in 10,362 BBT. The birth of the Osprian Dominate saw the return of widespread nobility in a manner unseen across the galaxy. The Osprian nobility is notably characterised not by mere birthright, but by the concept of honourhood following the Osprian Code of Honour, stipulated by the first Domirax Kaelrix’thar I Skavir. Osprian society reforged in such a way, that all aspects of life became honourbound with deeply traditional roots. Although ascribing the same honour, some Osprian races continue to emphasise the collective honour over that of the individual. Even democratic legislatures reformed, now known as Honour Councils, to not only govern, but to also grant Gentry to Osprians of great merit in all fields. In turn, members of the Gentry may be selected by the Osprian people to serve as representatives in the legislature or as governing nobility of the many constituent subdivisions of the Dominate.

Now, the Osprian Dominate stands as a proud & flourishing star nation with thousands of years of unity, prosperity, tradition & stability. An eidostate (a species-state) by design, the Osprian state aims to let the Osprian species flourish in all its forms. Although not dismissive of previous first contacts, the honourbound Osprians’ duties have largely kept them within the bounds of their dominion.

Economy
The Osprian economy is one following the principles of a social post-scarcity market with extensive social programs to guarantee a poverty-free life for all Osprians. Corporations enjoy major freedoms and are encouraged through fiscal policies to invest in the Dominate’s development. Megacorporations and arcologies characterise the modern Osprian economy, serving as its backbone. Additionally, the Osprian Dominate mandates its constituent estates to maintain certain sectors such as agriculture & space infrastructure to ensure each world remains sustainable.

The landscape on a typical Osprian planet.

Although its economy is largely based on planets, space infrastructure plays a key role in the Osprian economy. Goods are transported through large hauling companies which extensively use the stargate network to deliver them between worlds.

Osprian haulers leaving a space station.

Trade
The Osprian Dominate currently doesn’t maintain any significant trade relations with other star nations. However, some infrastructure in the fringes of the Dominate do exist. Although these are largely used as exploration hubs.

An Osprian trade station on its fringes.

Military
The Osprian military is overseen by the Council of Valour under one central command structure. The Empyrean Navy & Grand Army form the two main branches of the military with each specialised sub-branches. The Osprian military has developed alongside unique highly-advanced technology and is renowned for its honourable conduct.

Ground forces of the Grand Army are reliant on korrothium metal, of which the ores are found on fringes of the Shen Korrok Badlands (translated as Great Barrier), that disperses both kinetic & heat energy with remarkable efficiency and also amplifies personal shields. As such, the use of ranged weapons has largely been made redundant and melee combat has seen a resurgence within the Dominate’s military. Shield & lance formations have become common for the ground forces in an idiosyncratic irony.

Ships of the Empyrean Navy too, use korrothium as the basis for their ships. In terms of weaponry, the Dominate uses a vast arsenal ranging from antimatter missiles to long range particle lances. The vast Empyrean Navy is one of long-standing tradition and prowess against various nomadic species that threatened the Dominate. Rarely are its ships seen outside the Dominate’s borders with its primary role designated as defence.

Conflicts
The Osprian Dominate has enjoyed many millenia of peace, but occasionaly it has been the target of pirates & nomadic civilisations. These sporadic conflicts were typically short but frequent as few factions banded together with the exception of the Tebadine under Djamez Toghan who amassed the largest Star Horde known to the Osprians.

The most notable conflicts of the Osprian Dominate are:

  • Corsair Wars (9,872 - 9,562 BBT)
  • Veyrathian Wars (7,652 - 7,347 BBT)
  • Khylarian Wars (5,762 - 4,672 BBT)
  • Great Tebadine Crusade (2,926 - 2,267 BBT)
  • Kharuun Wars (1,706 - 1,685 BBT)

FTL
Skrailite serves as the cornerstone of Osprian FTL technology. This has been adapted into two ways to travel faster than light: through a jumpdrive or stargates. Jumpdrives allows ships to freely travel interstellar distances while stargates accelerate all types of ships on a predetermined FTL route.
