That’s no hot take

Read this:
Brianna sighed as Brennus paced the room. He looked at her.
“Bri, I cannot give you that.”

Brianna sighed. “This is important, Brennus.”
“Important to what?”
“My case?”
“What case?”
“It isn’t with the Bureau…”
“Exactly. I can’t give off case files just because you want to see them personally.”

Brianna scoffed, “Brennus, this is important. I was assigned this case by the-”
“I don’t care who assigned it to you, Bri, unless I get proper clearance from someone; those files are staying sealed.” Brianna stood up. “Fine…” She grabbed her bag and left. She went back to her desk, and the phone rang. She picked it up and walked over to her window, where she could see all of Londinium.

“Hey Brianna!” Karina said. “Any luck?”
Brianna sighed. “No, Brennus was being a little sh*thole about it. I wasn’t able to make much leeway with him, he’s a bit of a stickler for the rules.”
“I hear you…I worked with so many people like that.” Brianna had heard of Karina’s career at the bureau; she was good, the best at what she’d done. She quit after her teammate went rogue and assasinated her team in front of her. When she’d started working with TIS, Ace had taken her aside and told her that it was a very touchy subject.

“Anyways, try to get him to see the importance of it.” Karina said.
“Will do so.” Brianna hung up. She muttered in annoyance. “Of all the times…”
She spun around in her chair before her eyes landed on a photo of her and William. As time passed, she found that even though the breakup had sucked, she really didn’t miss him. Whether that was a sign of his character or hers, she didn’t know. They were never destined to work out, William wanted to settle; he didn’t know the intricacies of her work. And Brianna didn’t really believe in settling down she wasn’t cut out for that, even if they’d compromised, neither of them would ever be happy. She knew William was on a trip in Constantinople, good for him.

Brianna pushed William out of her head, she had something to do…suddenly she had an idea. She got up and beelined for her boss, Patrick’s office. Patrick was drinking coffee when she stormed in, Patrick coughed and coffee flew everywhere.

“By Jupiters mercy, Brianna, what the hell?”
“Sorry Sir, remember I got a phone call from Caesar Africanus a while back?”
“Well y-yes but I don’t see how this…is this about your mission?”

Brianna nodded. “Yep!” Patrick sighed. “All right.” He took out a pen and wrote something on a post it. “This is the Palatine Mansion Switchboard. Call whoever you need to.”

Brianna smiled, “Thank you.” She went back to her cubicle and dialed the number. It took her almost 10 minutes, but eventually the phone connected.

“This is the Caesarina speaking.” The voice said. Brianna felt her heart flutter with excitement.
“Y-yes, Ma’am, this is Brianna Wilkins. I was handling that classified investigation into the PMC…”
“Wait one second,” Aurelia said. Brianna heard the shuffling of files.

“Ah, yes, Scipio stressed the importance of this. How can I help?”
Brianna sighed, then spoke. “Well, Madam, I need to get all the files into Signal Corps past actions. Unfortunately, they are sealed and I can’t access them.”

“I can handle that.” Aurelia said. “You’ll get those files before lunchtime.”
“Thank you-” But the line had already been cut. Eventually, lunchtime came. Brennus approached Brianna.

“Hey Bri.” He said. Brianna smiled, “Hey Brennus, so about those files…”
“Yea yea. I don’t know who you called or why you need them but here you go.” He handed a huge list of documents and a USB flash drive. “This contains everything else you need.” He walked away.

After work, Brianna took those files to Lombard Street. Unbeknownst to her, she was being watched.

“She left the office.” One of the men said as he watched in binoculars. “Great.” His buddy said, “Draco, follow her.”

Draco, a tall man with blonde hair nodded as he began to go after Brianna. Brianna sighed as she saw the crowds at the train station. Maybe St James station would be better, longer of a walk, but even so she’d avoid the crowd here.

“Sh*t, she’s taken a detour.” Draco said he was stopped by an influx of people leaving the station, “DAMN IT!” He yelled, getting stares from everyone around. He looked for Brianna but found no trace of her. He desperately looked around, but found nothing.

“GOD FCKING DAMN IT! FCK FCK FCK!” Draco screamed.
“EXCUSE ME!” He turned around to see a old lady staring at him and she looked furious.
“THERE IS NO REASON TO BE YELLING SUCH OBSCENE LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC YOUNG MAN!” She screamed. A crowd had formed around them.

Draco groaned, he didn’t have the time for some old cranky leathery-skinned lizard ass face to be yelling at him. “f*ck off granny.” He scowled, suddenly, with surprising strength for someone her age and height, she socked him in the balls.

“OOOOH!” Draco groaned as he sank to the ground. The lady spit and walked away. Meanwhile, Brianna had already arrived at Lombard Street.

“You got it?” Ace asked as Brianna walked in. “Yep.” She gave them the flash drive and files. Felix plugged it into the computer.

“Why don’t we take these files and look at them?” Ace said as he handed one to Brianna and another lady. “I don’t think we’ve met.” Brianna said to this lady. She smiled, “I’m Alexandria, Bella’s sibling.”

“Ah. Nice to meet you…say where are Bella and the others?”
“Bella, Karina and Christoff have gone off to go look after some journalist…” Alexandria said. “Ah, that reminds me.” Ace said. “Bri, could you follow me?”

Brianna followed him. Ace opened a door to reveal a passed out dude. “WHAT THE F*CK?!!” Brianna yelled.
“I know it looks bad-”
“Looks bad? HES PASSED OUT?! Who even is he?”

Ace explained. Brianna sighed. “He’s a liability. If he goes to jail, he’ll spill to protect himself…I…I’ve got contacts at Witness Protection, but in the meantime, you need to get this guy out of here.”

“Where do we take him?”
“Ugh, drop him off at the Bureau HQ, here’s my card. Say that this is part of my classified mission, I’ll send my boss a message with all the details.”

Ace smiled, “Thanks, Brianna, your a lifesaver.”
“I know.”
Brianna watched as Ace left. Then she, Alexandria and Felix continued looking through the files.
“This sh*t is messed up.”
“Tell me about it.”

If they could corroborate all this, then they’d be able to put Signal Corps upper officials away for good. There was all sorts of stuff, extortion, money laundering, and a plethora of other crimes.

“Ok…I’ve got to go.” Brianna said after a while. “I want to join Bella and the others while they check out this guy.” Felix nodded. “I’ll send you the address tomorrow.”

As Brianna arrived home, she saw someone waiting at the entrance to her home.
“William?”

William smiled. “Hey Brianna…”
“What are you doing here?”
“I missed you…” He said. Brianna frowned. Something was off. “Look, William, I miss you too, but we broke up for a reason.”

William shook his head. “I was a idiot Bri, It was wrong of me to not support your career, this work is your passion.”

He suddenly pulled Brianna into a hug. For a moment, Brianna was almost fooled, but she looked over his shoulder, and a man was walking up and down the corridors. She looked the other way…there too.

Brianna realized it was a trap. She suddenly stepped on William’s foot and pushed him against the wall hard, he crumpled to the floor dazed. Brianna ran for it. The Elevator would take too long.

Suddenly, one of the men grabbed her. Brianna grabbed her key and jammed it into his face. He recoiled in pain, Brianna kicked him and ran for the stairs, but the door was locked. She fumbled for her key, the other man caught up to her and threw her to the floor.

“F*CK!” Brianna yelled as she hit the floor. She tried to reach for her gun, but the guy was already over her. His fist flew down and everything went black…
