Pursuant to Citizenship Act 4(2)a, leniency is granted at the discretion of the Citizenship Committee rather than under pre-defined criteria. However, in this case, the Citizenship Committee granted leniency to citizens who voted in a recent election (either the October 2023 Prime Minister election or the October 2023 Chair of the Assembly election), citizens who became citizens only shortly before the elections, and citizens who offered explanations for lapses.

Could you also specify the start and end times (in addition to dates) of your requested leave of absence? We can’t reasonably determine whether a “majority of [a] voting period is contained within [your] leave of absence” pursuant to Citizenship Act 4(2) if we don’t know when in the day your leave of absence would start or end.
