[2457.AP] January 2025 Chair Resolution

Hello all,

As my term as Chair expires on January 13, 2025 5:00 PM, I thought it would be a good time to get the ball rolling with regards to appointing/choosing a new Chair of the Assembly. As I mentioned in my re-appointment post back in October. I will not be seeking a fourth term in office.

I’ve been in Assembly Leadership since May 2022 if I recall correctly. First as a Deputy Chair and then as Chair. I feel in this time I have served the Assembly well, in both capacities, and that now is the time more than ever to allow others the wonderful opportunity that is serving this great Assembly. With that, let the discussion begin! :cake:

Who, in your opinion, has demonstrated the potential to enter the role and perform admirably?

At the very least, the two Deputies, @Welly and @lordNwahs.

In my view both @lordnwahs & @Welly have demonstrated the motivation and ability to serve as Chair in an admirable and effective way.

I would not be resolutely opposed to taking on the job if the Assembly desires, but I would note that the circumstances that led me to resigning from the PM-ship have not really changed, and I would prefer to continue as a Deputy Chair under another Chair.

I strongly support my fellow Deputy Chair @Welly for the position of Chair, given their lengthier tenure in the Assembly Leadership team, and if they are willing to take on the office I would strongly encourage the Assembly to consider them for the role.

There are 5 days left until the term ends. I am quite concerned there has been nothing additionally said about the Chair Resolution.

@Welly Do you have thoughts on being Chair of the Assembly after @BlockBuster2K43’s term ends? As @lordnwahs isn’t necessarily able to be Chair.

I could try if there really isn’t anyone willing, but my time is still limited (besides my inexperience of course)

I’m sure the outgoing Chair will assist in any transition for any capable member willing to take on the role, and I will offer to assist as Deputy to the best of my ability to anyone who wishes to take on that role.

I don’t object to taking on the role for a limited time, but I would prefer not to unless no suitable candidate emerges in the coming hours.

I will be more than willing to assist any member wishing to assume the Office of the Chair. I’ll do my level best to ensure a smooth transition with little to no disruptions.

I apologize to the Assembly for my delayed response. I immensely appreciate the vote of confidence from all who have nominated me (is that what it’s called in this new Chair selection process?).

I’ve have been pondering at such length not because I am not interested in the job. I very much am. Rather it’s because, like my fellow Deputy Chair, my RL commitments are so unpredictable that it is hard to be sure that I will have the time to do the job in a way that I would want and that the Assembly deserves.

That said, I’ve done some planning and think it will be possible. So I’m in! A more detailed post outlining my plans for the position will follow this evening. I thank everyone again for their patience and forbearance.

So we’re just doing it unanimously instead of holding an election? Or is it due to the small time frame we have?

We elect Chairs by resolution, not by traditional election.
