(2) Within the first weekthree days of each calendar month, the Chair of the Assembly will remove legislator status from a legislator if they failed the Assembly voting requirement in the past month.
I honestly don’t understand what this section means.
Does it (currently) give the entire first week for the Chair to remove the legislators? Or does it require a week to pass?
Not sure why we are getting rid of the leeway that was built within the law.
Just because the removals can be processed relatively quickly doesn’t mean that the Chair won’t have RL obligations that may preclude them from doing it in three days.
There could be various reasons why the chair could get delayed in removals as already suggested above. To be frank, I don’t really see a point to this change. If there are any more reasons that can be provided for this change, it would be nice to know.
I seem to recall the discussion on Discord being about Citizenship Committee removals of citizenship status in response to CTEs, rather than Chair removals of legislator status in response to failing the Assembly voting requirement. The basic point was that CitComm has discretion when and how frequently to check for CTEs, which has the potential to be used for political ends. I proposed–somewhat offhandedly, to be honest–that we could limit CitComm to conducting one CTE check per month in a specified time frame. I still think that might be worth pursuing, but I’m not sure a corresponding change to the Legislator Act is as necessary.
