Plasma Cannons?

Despite its high-tech sound, plasma cannons are a rather crude quick fix to the Association’s wider problem of fielding Bulk Freighters in combat situations. PT-2s are 400mm Coilguns that fire superheated plasma ampules at a target, which upon impacting breaks apart and destroys armor, allowing for smaller calibers of fire (such as 100mm or 120mm) to rip apart larger capital ships.

Autumn sighed. So, Zephyr Freight Delivery was still getting tricked by random “Privateering” groups. Why Association PKCOM wasn’t here, probably being held up in Alarian. So, she had made the choice to make a run for the nearest Hyperlane, which lead to… Well, somewhere away from these pirates. Maybe, she thought, she could get some repairs in, and get away from these pirates, bring the guns back, and make these pirates pay for her vessel’s damage.

“DC Coordinator, AiC.”

“Go ahead Coordinator.”

“The guns are back up, and we’re refabricating parts, but our Custodian is busted.”

“How the fuck-”

“The good news, is that the FTA-6800 is still working, and is still operating within acceptable levels, but our main Drive is… Well for the lack of a better word, fucked.”

“That it?”

“There’s an atmospheric leak in the compartment carrying the Cascadium, but it’s localized.”

“Okay, that’s… Manageable. Alright, keep at it.”

“Aye ma’am.”

“COMMO, communicate to ‘You’ll Need Me’ we need a tug. I want Tide Unto Dusk to Flank to the nearest station.”

“Guess we’re sitting ducks waiting for these rescue forces or those pirates, eh?”

“Quite the conundrum, ma’am.”

“Somebody start manning the plasma, and get the ERegs ready. Someone’s getting hurt, and it’s not gonna be us.”

5 ships go trough the hyperlane. One was a old Orion destroyer, probably bought from the Panasu united fleet. Selling captured ships to independent pirate groups was one of it’s forms of income. The rest of the ships ware repurposed heavy cargo vessels. Instead of cargo they carried heavy armor plating patched together from the hulls of destroyed ships.

They burned towards the cargo fleet. The military ship launched a salvo of 6 torpedos at them. They waren’t explosive, but EMP. They didn’t want to destroy the ships, just capture and loot them. They still waren’t aware that they’re in a foreign system, with a foreign fleet close by.

The ships had just gotten underway when someone shouted

“SPIKER! SPIKER!”

The crew kicked into gear. Chaff and Flares dropped where the ship was, and immediately began flanking away from it, hoping to close enough distance so that the Torpedoes would find their cocktail of Countermeasures more appealing than the original target. Since they were being provided an offset track from Tide unto Dusk, Journeysman and You’ll Need Me switched off their radars, hoping to escape any ARAD Missiles. Their Ship’s T10’s wheeled around to face the incoming missiles, with Grapeshot loaded. While not having a Fire Control, the sheer volume of fire would end up saving them.

“ACTION STATIONS! PROTECT THIS DAMN SHIP! GET THE TUG AWAY FROM US! PLASMA, HUNDRED MILS, CLEARED HOT!”

Plasma, for the sake of Sci Fi, is an overpowered tool used by fictional aliens to destroy planets. When Autumn’s ship was issued two plasma guns, she thought they’d work in the same fashion. Upon inspection in the upkeep guide… No. As would it turn out, these weapons strip armor, allowing her to do real damage to internals of ships, rather than waste her rounds on the thick armor, say a battleship. The guns beared to target, and patiently waited for the ships to enter range. Since the tug was the only ship providing engine power, to ship slowed to a stop, appearing as though it was immobile.

(Lt. Veria Fask, Comms Officer)“Admiraal! Felts staation is reporting weapons fire near those freighters, it also reported thaat 5 Unknown waarships have entered our system. Should we respond?”

Silva immediately pressed a button on his chair that initiated Red Alert, quietly saying yes to Veria’s question. She immediately sent the “weapons hot” command to all vessels in the area.

(Adm. Dennis Silva III, CO)“Cmdr. Huntsman, acquire a targeting solution and tell our main battery to presume independent fire, make sure CIWS and PD are ready to go, and prepare VLS cells, 15 S-30’s, target enemy vessels. Lt. Veria, communicate to the fleet to enter Defence Formation 3 and give the same orders I’ve given to Huntsman, send a signal to Haakar for backup, and if they can’t, then try Reddy. Clear?”

(Cmdr. Huntsman, Weapons Officer)“Acquiring target solution and preparing CIWS and PD aye. Preparing VLS cells and telling Batteries A and B to begin independent fire, aye. Batteries X and Y hold fire until comfortable be reached. 15 S-30’s aye, preparing to launch, aye.”

(Lt. Veria Fask, Comms Officer)“Sending signals aye”

The fleet, having already to have begun moving towards the quickly developing battle, began slowing down as they reached weapons range. In a matter of moments, Ishkeria, Victory, Justice, Andersen, and Silva all began launching their volley of missiles, 15 each to every enemy vessel, in a hope to overwhelm any Point Defence, while the Ishkeria’s forward facing 250mm turrets began firing. There would be no pirates in this system.

As soon as the pirate fleet detected the UUS ships it knew it had messed up. Their engines suddenly cut as reaction motors turned them around, only for them to then fire back up again at maximum power. Point defenses, both soft kill and hard kill, ware up as well as the primitive jammers pirates like these could aquire at a reasonable price. But it wasn’t enough. The military ship managed to get trough undamaged, but 2 of the repurposed civilian ships took damage and one was splashed. These waren’t the kind of pirates fighting neck to neck with military fleets like the Lazarus navy, compared to those they ware amateurs.

The remaining ships quickly escaped trough the hyperlane, hoping that they wouldn’t be followed further.
