Overview

The Union of the Seraphim Veil is a nation in the Voidsea. Divided into six prefectures across 35,000 systems, it occupies a somewhat large area, comparable to a cluster in the compact, with a quarter of the population due to a declining birthrate that has recently started recovering.

Government

The Government of the Seraphim Veil has changed dramatically, from Imperial Dictatorship, to War Council, to a Representative Democracy.

Planets and stations each elect prefects to represent them in their prefecture council. The Prefecture Council in turn, elects six senior prefects to serve in the Seraph Senate. The Seraph Senate then elects the Director-General for a twelve year term, subject to recall at any time.

Culture

The Seraphim Veil are materialists, their expansion to the stars driven by their original planet, Seraphimna, slowly entering the event horizon of the Seraphimna’s Rest Black Hole.

History

Once a proud nation controlling most of the counter-spin voidsea, the sundering collapsed the nation. After the Sundering, the nation began a war of conquest, coming into contact and white peacing with the Compact.

Overview

The Orion League is a star nation in the Voidsea. Founded during the Sundering as a planetary league in the Orion Cluster, it grew to encompass the cluster as the sundering waned. It has a prosperous trade economy, exporting a high portion of the voidsea’s medicine and surplus military equipment. It has a growing birth rate with a good mix of Humans, Serniani, and Vocates.

Government

The Orion League is a unicameral direct democracy. The nation’s citizens elect a president every five years through a popular vote. The High Congress is the unicameral body, taking elections every two and a half years. The High Court acts as a counterbalance, rejecting illegal laws. Judges are vetted and approved by the executive and legislative branches, but are always given to the people to approve them. Judges in the Judiciary rotate every ten years, moving in a circle.

Judiciary Rotation

System Trial Court → Circuit Court → Appellate Court → The High Court* → Repeat

*Those on the high court serve twenty year terms, and there is a fixed 15 justices. Appellate Court Judges go to System Trial Courts after ten years if a High Court appointment isn’t available.

Culture

The people of Orion value their political freedom, and the expression it allows. High School Mock Trial Associations and Debate Teams compete at the national level. Orionites are very xenophilic, willing to shelter anybody regardless of their ideals.

History

The Orion League is a sundering nation. Founded as the Orion Settlements, they trace their roots back to various colonization programs. During the Sundering, the Orion Cluster was less affected due to its position and still retained contact with the outside sector.

The Orion Independence Movement started on Maestro when a food riot turned deadly. From there, a deadly seventeen year war ensued. The Orion League eventually came into being after the war ended and the newly freed planets had to decide on their new form of government.

As of 25 BBT, the Orion Star Navy conducts joint patrols with the Seraphim Veil and Vandalence Compact.

As of 0 BBT, a referendum to integrate further into the Vandalence Compact had been considered and rejected.

The Syndicate

Overview

The Syndicate is a sector spanning Non-State Actor with a significant foothold in the Voidsea and Republic of United Worlds. Like the Serene Swords Republic, it deals in illicit substances, but also has a great deal of contractors that smaller independent settlements rely on for protection. It is said any person of any species can join the Syndicate, so long as they have the skills or expertise.

Government

The ‘government’ of the Syndicate isn’t widely understood. It is known that a ‘Prime Executive’ exists and that a council of some form makes unified policy decisions (slavery doesn’t exist across Syndicate aligned territories for this reason). Beyond that, there are Khans, which control ‘territory’ inside of other nations.

Culture

As the Syndicate is a Non-State Actor, there is no unified culture across Syndicate aligned worlds or territories.

History

We really don’t know the history of the Syndicate. We don’t even know if it’s a pre or post sundering nation.

The Serene Swords Republic
Pirate Republic

Overview

The Serene Swords Republic is a pirate republic based out of Spider’s Run. The Serene Swords Republic is a mid Voidsea polity, dealing extensively in illicit substances. It is a known safe haven for pirates who pay tithe for port and other privileges. The territory controlled by the Serene Swords Republic is mostly human, with plenty of Vocates and recently, Edhel.

Government

The Serene Swords Republic has a fairly robust representative democracy. The Presiding Officer is the president of the Senate, while the Commissary-General runs the executive branch of the government. Each station and planet gets votes dependent on the population size, with a total of twelve-thousand nine hundred and five votes across the nations three thousand systems (1 vote for every 1 million), with a census taking place every five years. The Central Court interprets laws and has twenty-five justices.

Culture

The people of the Serene Swords Republic value their autonomous status with sub clusters being given high levels of autonomy away from the central government. Sworders love a good duel, and some are streamed on the Republic’s own internet.

History

The Serene Swords Republic is a post-sundering nation founded when a group of privateers from another settlement were exploring the Spider’s Run System and decided to make it their homebase. From there, the nation expanded outwards, founding subclusters and other settlements on the fringes.
