“294s and 308s are scrambled and are off the deck. All units push vector 100 Referencing off the Screening Shot.”

The swarms of Ram Fighters began swarming around the ships, whose cannons were following the Rosecordi fighters. Groups of ram fighters broke off to engage, probing the attack range of the enemy.

This time, all the Ram Fighters had been retrofitted with kinetic weaponry to make up for the lack of… ramming.

“Corvettes, fire High Explosive Shrapnel and put up a wall of fire.”

“Good Contact, multiple ships. Taking a singular shot at one of the bigger radar contacts.”

“Fire!”

The Magnetic Resonance lurches back 50 meters as the projectile exits the barrel before beginning a path into the large radar contact, too fast to out maneuver.

“Board, Picture, Shrapnel is mopping up Ram Fighters, cease fire.”

The Ram Fighters broke off from their groups and thrusted towards the enemy at incredible speeds. So of them would be taken out prior to arrival at effective combat range, but it would be near impossible, if not incredibly impractical, to take out all the individual fighters

In the meantime, the larger ships began moving forward to engage the enemy

“Corvettes, weapons free. Shoot a wall of shrapnel around the fleet.”

“Jamming with Falsefade.”

“Music, Music, Music.”

The Enemy was now blind, could not tell how many ships there were, and essentially messed up any attempts of missile tracking. It did not help that there were six emission points, each at a different point in the fleet. Unless they closed the distance and entered into visuals, they were going to be nearly invulnerable, though the Ram Fighters remained nearly unaffected by the shrapnel, but CIPDS in the fleet began revving up, the laser weapons beginning to train onto the Ram Fighters

Fortunately for Colonus, Ram Fighters were built for the up-close and personal
The main fleet was in trouble though, and it was time for something unprecedented. The capital ship sent out the order, and a group of 7 ships broke off from the main fleet, turned towards the enemy fleet, and went to brightspace. They didn’t end up all that close to the enemy fleet, but they were now on the other side of it, and closer to optimal
firing range. At least the Rosecordi’s attention would be split in several directions

“Ares Actual, Missiles are Programmed. Dart-1! Dart 1!.”

Missiles fire towards the main fleet

“We’re being flanked!”

“How the–”

“Firelights deal with the flank, burn holes into their shielding, keep our energy moving, MR Fire into their Command Ship if ident.”

“Looking for it! Too Many damn RFs!”

“Singularities, focus, Screening deal with the flank. Weapons are free! Clear to engage all targets.”

RNDFV Magnetic Resonance

“SIGINT?”

“Lots of traffic coming off the bandit at 220.”

“Fire at will! Battleshort the damn railgun, we’re 'bout to get rendered CI’d anyway! Flank Ahead!”

The ship appeared to move forward as the Magnetic Resonance stops as the railgun fires five times simultaneously, before being rendered Combat Infective. The rounds continue on target, striking the target

“Cease Fire. Well Played.”

“Magnetic Resonance is Combat Ineffective. Disabling targeting, radars, and Falsefade.”

The MR powers down it’s jamming and Long Distance Scopes. The fight had been turning into a brawl anyways.

“Firing! Battleshorting 300 mils and our CIPDS.”

“Rest of our Corvi’s are doing the same. We’ll be rendered CI if we keep this up!”

“Destroy the flankers! We need our attention on one front!”

“Laze their Shielding with our CIPDS! One hole makes brightspace unusable! Atleast, that’s what they told us in briefing.”

“Singularities, good work, but support the fleet. Defend Center Force, keep one near us for ES, but we don’t need all four of you bearing on us.”

“Good Effect on targets!”

“Coils Coils Coils!”

The Split fleet continued forward, and the mid-sized ships finally reached optimal firing range for their emp capsules. That, at least, would buy them some much-needed time.

“It’s a shame we had to come into this battle handicapped. What’s the point of training if we’re not allowed to fight at our best?”
“Orders are orders, if Scytheros says that it’s not worth sparking a diplomatic incident over, then it’s not worth sparking a diplomatic incident over.”
“Sure, sure, but they better not start whining if they ever get to see the Ram Fighters used properly”
“Right now all we can do is trust our soldiers to not embarrass Colonus again, we can save all that for later.”
“I’m just waiting for this all to be over, you know the command’s going to grill us for losing the command ship.”
“If don’t win this, maybe the Mandi will kill us first.”
“Stop your whining, you lot are members of the Colonian Military, not a bunch of human children.”
“Yes sir.”

“Bot, what’s the status of the Colonian fleet?”
[I’m sorry Admiral, but I cannot assist you in the exercise. That would be cheating]
“I’m already eliminated, you’re not helping Colonus by telling me how my own damn ships are!”
[Very well, admiral. It would seem that my now the Ram Fighters have been taken out, along with the small ships, most of the heavy ships, and a significant chunk of the medium sized ships.]
“Would it kill you to learn the proper names for the ‘ships’? Ah, that’s beside the point. It’s not looking good for us. If they’re going to do something, they’ve got to do it now.”

“How much longer until we’re in effective firing range?”
“Too long, at this rate we’re not going to make it in time”
“Damn, if we lose the last of our heavy cruisers, we’re done. Can the middle classes ram them?”
“That’s against the rules. Even if they ‘detonated their charges’, the blast wouldn’t be large enough to do much damage.”
“And I imagine at this point our BrightSpace trick won’t work again”
“Nope. At this point, we’d have to increase our effective firing range to even have a shot at destroying them.”
“Well… could we?”
“Excuse me?”
“Ever read the instruction manuals for these things? They were built with the mandi in mind, there’s not much in the way of physical safeguards when it comes to the cannons, just strong warnings not to divert too much power into it.”
“What happens if you do that?”
“The cannon would explode. And maybe the ship too, if you’re unlucky. On the plus side, our big balls of death would be able to go a whole lot further, maybe even far enough to ruin their paintjobs.”
“You’re a dumbass, you know that? You’re a beautiful, stupid son of a bitch. Somebody call the other ships, we’re going to need some coordination and a whole lot of mandi if we want to land any of these shots.”
