21.16.1358. OF THE ERA OF UNITY
BATTLE OF OLON’S GEM

Olon’s gem was a large structure in mirial space. A crystal of mirial matter several kilometers large. It was a strategic location as it acted as a natural beacon. It allowed for miraline forces to get deep into calerostan territory to commence raids and attacks. Securing it is crucial to defend the empire’s heartland.

On the defense there are around 5000 miraline ships, and the empire is attacking with 8000 of it’s own ships. Losing this battle would damage calerost heavily, robbing it of a good chunk of it’s elite ships. Failure is not a option.

The fleet is commanded by the 31 year old prince Lûthion, the emperor’s firstborn son. He is well skilled, but is he up to the task?

The admiral’s deck on board the INS light of glory was tense. They ware going into a massive battle, probably only second to the battle of first victory in scale. Prince Lûthion himself was leading the battle, with his wife as his first officer, lady Authel of the house of Harthor. This pick wasn’t purely done out of love, as she too was a experienced commander, at least as experienced as him. He knew her skills very well, and knew he could rely on her. They ware joined by a few more skilled officers as advisors. They stood around a large table, with real time positions of all of their and the enemy’s ship projected around it. The room was stabilized and reinforced, so that nothing may distract them.

“Authel, status report?”

" 20 minutes untill engagement. The miraline are holding their formation."

“Good. Let’s go through the plan one more time. The miraline are in formation to fight us, strike force warhammer, as expected. 5 minutes before we engage strike force saber will brake their fake patrol route and VIV behind them, using Olon’s gem to decelerate. They will atempt to disorganize them, make them break formation, giving us a advantage to slam into them. If everything goes well we will be able to break their right flank and push them from two sides, the gem acting as a obstacle to prevent them from retreating, the only place where they will be able to atempt to pass is the left, which should be covered by our left flank.”

“Yes, that is the plan. Together with our numerical advantage we should be able to take them out”

“But it will be bloody”

“If everything went perfectly not nearly as much as first victory, but we never know”

“The unknowing is what scares me, your royal highness.”

“We will never know everything, Lodion, no plan survives contact with the enemy, but w must be brave and believe into our tactics. Make final preparations, in a few minutes it’s showtime.”

Lûthion was looking at the map and counting down

“5, 4, 3, 2,…”

Suddenly, nearly a hundred light-years away strike force saber suddenly broke formation, and turned rapidly. If the ship crews wasn’t strapped into their chairs they would fly off into the wall accelerating at 3-4G. In a few seconds they ware turned around with their warp wings deployed, and jumped at VIV speeds, as planned using the gem to decelerate and slamming into the miraline line.

The battle had begun.

Soon enough strike group Warhammer had also entered combat range. The miraline ware attempting to hold formation still but their tactic seemed to work, their lines look disorganized

“All ships, clearence to use weapons of mass destruction is given, let’s obliterate these bastards!”

With those words the nukes started flying. Thousands of gigatons of explosive power was hitting the miraline. But nukes ware flying the other way too. Both sides had ships adapted to be good at absorbing nuclear blasts. Some WMDs wouldn’t just end a battle that easily.

“Lûthion, are my eyes failing me or is their left flank turning around?”

“Yes it does look like it, but why? It doesn’t make any…”

It suddenly hit him

“CONCENTRATE FIRE ON THE LEFT FLANK! MAKE AS FEW SHIPS DISENGAGE AS POSSIBLE! STRIKE FORCE SABRE PULL BACK TO THE MAIN LINE OR YOU WILL BE SURROUNDED!”

The miraline had constructed a beacon somewhere not far in their territory. The left flank, relatively not pressured, was going to use it to suddenly get to the other side of strike force saber. If they didn’t pull them out now, they would be encircled.

Fire was concentrated on the left flank, but it wasn’t enough to stop it. It jumped back to the new miraline beacon. They now had only a few minutes before they’d be back. Some ships from strikes force sabre managed to pull back to the main line of combat, but with a fleet of it’s size it was hard to move that quickly.

The miraline left flank jumped out of VIV. Only a maximum of 250m off. The miraline had a natural talent for using natural beacons precisely. When strike force sabre pulled it’s suprise attack their maximum deviation was 1.5km.

Lûthion had to think fast

“Shit! Strike force saber re arrange to hold from both directions, I’m sending ships towards your direction to aid! Pull back as much as you can!”

“This is not good, this is not good at all. How did we not detect the new beacon?”

“I don’t know but that is not important now. Without ordering tactical jumps out we are not getting those ships out. We need to fight trough or take a big loss.”

“You’re right. Order the left flank to use the opening and outflank them. If we can get the center to collapse we could still win this”

But the center was not collapsing, and the situation was getting worse. A victory seemed less and less possible.
