Restrictions on Pinging SPSF Roles

Currently these roles are pingable by everyone on discord:

  • SPSF: Cadet
  • SPSF: Ensign
  • SPSF: Lieutenant
  • SPSF: Captain
  • SPSF: Lieutenant-In-Training
  • SPSF: Captain-In-Training
  • SPSF: Tidal Force
  • SPSF: Admiral
  • SPSF: Officer
  • SPSF: Tidal Force Coordinator

The vast majority of these roles should not be pingable by anyone and represent a security concern to our military due to the easy access anyone seeking to impact operations has to ping our whole military.

Of these roles anyone should be able to ping the last three on the list of SPSF: Officer, SPSF: Admiral, and SPSF: Tidal Force Coordinator. All other roles should not be pingable by the general populace.

The Officer Corps needs to be able to ping every SPSF role within the Ministry of Defense discord category, which we currently can to my knowledge. That is currently achieved through being able to ping all roles in those channels which to my knowledge is the only way to do that. I’d just like to confirm which roles have that permission in the SPSF channels, as all members of the Officer Corps should be able to, as well as the MoD.

For clarification given my other recent post in the ops center, this is not a general complaint/suggestion from a member of TSP. This is a request from the Admiralty concerning IC security.

Anybody can ping those roles. There are no uniform permissions across the Ministry of Defense category — frankly, there are a lot of SPSF roles and channels, and each channel has different permissions for different roles. It would probably be easiest if you could specify which roles the “Officer Corps” should include (if all the SPSF rank roles are still needed) and in which channels they should be able to mention all roles, and we can prune it down to that. The SPSF: Officer role is not associated with any permissions and I would prefer to keep functional and cosmetic roles separate.
