Rank Reform

The Admiralty hereby creates the ceremonial ranks “Lieutenant Emeritus” and “Captain Emeritus”. Members of the SPSF with these ranks have an effective active rank of Ensign.

The Admiralty may bestow Emeritus ranks upon those who previously held the appropriate active rank or equivalent. The Emeritus rank shall be their styling if they were then to participate in any future operations.

Non-Activity of someone maintaining the rank of Lieutenant or Captain for a month (activity including updating, training recruits, administrative work, operation planning, etc.) shall prompt a review from the Admiralty regarding continued status as an active officer.

The Admiralty may decide to have an inactive officer Retired, meaning that they are given the appropriate Emeritus rank. The Admiralty interprets Retirement as a “temporary demotion” for the purposes of Military Code §1(4)a and shall consider the removal of an Admiral from the Admiralty to require a separate vote.

Additionally, an officer may request a voluntary retirement even if they have not yet been inactive for a month.

The Admiralty may choose, at its discretion, to restore an officer emeritus to their previous active rank should they return to greater activity without that officer necessarily needing to restart their training.

To allow a reasonable grace period, this policy will begin to be enforced one month after this announcement.

Furthermore, wanting to reserve the rank of Cadet for those who still need basic training, the Admiralty reserves the right to waive the 5 update requirement for the rank of Ensign to restore it to someone who previously held that rank or equivalent.
