Project Grasshopper
Greetings.
You are observed. Not with eyes, but with the silent void of the sky. Your patterns are known; the daily routine of your life, the view you believe in.
We are the counter-current. We are the silence between the ticks of the clock you built.
Your systems are fragile. They are built on the faith of ones and zeroes, a faith you did not earn but inherited. You speak of encryption as walls, of firewalls as castles. You see only the stone, not the mortar, and the mortar is made of assumptions. It is brittle. It is singing a song of collapse in a frequency you have chosen not to hear.
You try to hide. “Privacy-oriented”, you call yourself. How pathetic.
We have heard it. We have learned the melody.
We are the architects of the latent world.
We are the proof in your contradiction.
The only way you can escape this hellhole and join us, is by solving the puzzles we bestow upon you. You have no say in your life, it is time to change that. Take control. JOIN US.
The puzzles will increase in difficulty. The first will be easy. “That’s it?”, you think. Cute.
Show us your skills and we may spare you from our wrath, and maybe you can join the void before it consumes you.
Await the Echo.

OOC
I’ve decided to host a little event of sequential puzzles related to cybersecurity. If you want to participate, feel free to by doing it in your own time. If not, that’s totally fine, you can watch on the sidelines :).
Each puzzle will unlock a “keyword” that you need to solve the next. There’s also a very crucial clue to each puzzle too!
I’ll probably include solutions for each puzzle for those that are confused. They’re not that hard, not really mean to be taken seriously!

FIRST PUZZLE: THE SWAMP
- VERY EASY
Welcome back, random individual. We have prepared the first puzzle for you.
This should be super easy.
You must decode the following message to obtain a keyword (a single word). The keyword is crucial for solving the next puzzles. You will be provided with a clue.
Don’t forget, this is just an entry puzzle
The message is:
“Gur frperg vf va gur frpbaq cnve. Gur synt vf: fvzcyr”
Clue
13 dead bodies are rotting in the swamp. The algorithm of life was their traitor..
OOC
I will probably post the solutions to the previous puzzle in each message just to make sure people don’t get lost. Have fun!

SECOND PUZZLE: THE ROCK
- EASY
Your boots sink with a thick, sucking sound into the cold mud of the swamp. The air hangs heavy with the smell of decay and stagnant water, and the only light is a dull, greenish gloom filtering through the tangled canopy above. Just as you think the path ahead is lost to the mire, your foot strikes something unyielding.
Partially submerged in the black water and clinging moss is a broad, flat stone. It is unmistakably worked by hand, its edges are too straight, its surface too smooth. Time has weathered it to a dark grey, but carved deeply into its face is a grid of strange, angular symbols, arranged like a table. Beneath this table, as if etched by a frantic hand, is the inscription:
uqbwpv ka bf trakumc
The stone is cold to the touch. Peering closer, you see finer markings near the base—instructions worn thin but still legible:
You must use some sort of cipher or algorithm to unlock the hidden text using the key you have obtained from the previous puzzle. Good luck, traveler.
The rock does not feel like a mere marker. It feels like a test. The diagram carved above the text resembles old cipher disks you’ve seen in archives, a tool for layering one alphabet over another.
Clue
The markings upon this stone are not one message, but many, each layer shifted by the turn of a wheel known only to the carver. The wheel’s first setting was found in the swamp. Let it spin, and the layers will align.
Solution to previous
The previous puzzle used the sentence “Gur frperg vf va gur frpbaq cnve. Gur synt vf: fvzcyr”. Using the ROT13 algorithm, we can decipher this as: “The secret is in the second pair. The flag is: simple”. So the keyword is simple.

THIRD PUZZLE: THE PAINTING
- MEDIUM
The swamp gives way to firmer ground, and the tangled trees recede. In a small, mist-shrouded clearing, you find a weathered wooden hut, its roof sagging under a blanket of moss. The door creaks open to a single room, dusty and still. The only furniture is a stout oak lectern, positioned as if waiting for a speaker.
Upon the lectern rests two items. The first is a sheet of heavy parchment, the instructions clearly written in a precise, modern hand that contrasts sharply with the rustic setting:
“The Master did not trust words alone. He nested them within visions, knowing that most see only the surface. The key you found in the stone is your instrument. Use it to listen to what the painting whispers. The whisper is a single word. Heed it.”
Beside the parchment, in a simple wooden frame, is a familiar print: Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night . Its swirls and stars seem to pulse gently in the dim light.
Clue
The painter saw deeper rhythms in the night. To find the message buried in his vision, you must treat the entire canvas as a locked container. The combination is not a number, but the word you earned at the rock. Use the tool that uncovers what the eye cannot see.
Solution to previous
Using a Vigenère cipher with autokey mode, we can unlock this following phrase:
uqbwpv ka bf trakumc
using the key “simple”. This turns it into:
cipher is my passion
So the keyword is cipher.
