The trial involving Brendan Borx, Johan Tessel and several other high-ranking military officers involved in the brief coup d’Etat attempt has concluded. Since all the defendants were members of the military, the proceeding used Vrigny’s somewhat-intact (since the dictatorship) military law system. Both Brendan Borx and Johan Tessel were sentenced to death for high treason, even though Vrigny passed laws outlawing the death penalty, although only in its civilian law system, through which the grand majority of people are subject to. Despite many defending that the death penalty should be abolished in Vrignyan military law as well, or be used only during martial law, it is too late for both generals.

Other military officers were also sentenced to high treason, although they only received a maximum of 30 years in prison due to their lesser involvement in the plan. With this, a new round of investigation and criminal proceedings has begun against the Vrignyan army and many of its veterans, which may have committed crimes against the people or the system during the dictatorship or the 4th Republic’s early days.

The Ryccian Ministry of Commerce has denied an application by a shipping company to import Grønn products, citing the government’s legal monopoly over the domestic drug industry and the ban on imports unless they meet “certain special criteria as set out by law and relevant executive regulations”. It is believed the Ryccian government has used this incident as a silent protest against the Valkyrian state’s policy of promoting the international drug trade. Leaked, but unconfirmed, government memos cite Valkyria’s proactive stance on drugs as a “threat to national security”, mentioning concerns over a potential “derailment” of the Ryccian government’s strict control over the domestic market and fears of an “out-of-control” market that could potentially disrupt the government’s emphasis on limiting the domestic drug market and steer consumers of the more damaging drugs towards rehabilitation programs. These documents also show that the government’s opinion of Valkyria is beginning to sour, as it sees its proactive drug stance as “reckless and disrespectful interference in the drug policies and markets of foreign states, Ryccia included” and “an open insult, demonstrating the Valkyrian government’s utter disregard for the concerns and affairs of other nations”. The Ryccian government has refused to comment on the issue.

Izaakian Home Secretary Philomena Beaufort asked about Izaakian drug policies in comparison to those in Valkyria. She said “I think half of the population being stoned explains their electoral choices, and I certainly understand why they feel the need to be stoned in Valkyria. Here in Izaakia, life is good enough to not need dulling, and drugs will remain illegal for the foreseeable future, or at least until we stop caring about our peoples health and the NHS budget,”

Kliegmean Police has arrested several Valkyrian nationals attempting to smuggle ilegal drugs, a wide variety at that, including cannabis, cocaine, and psilocybin.

Said individuals stated that they were contracted by Grønn, a Valkyrian Drug Company, to “provide samples” to the “untapped” Kliegmean markets. However, was unable to produce documents or other methods to back their claim.

Nonetheless, their actions directly go against article 228 of Kliegmean Criminal Code, concerning “llegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues, as well as illegal sale or transfer of plants containing narcotics”. The code institutes a minimum 3 years in prison, and a minimum of 600,000 Grivnas.

The Valkyrian Embassy has been contacted, not to discuss the repatriation, as smugglers are legally unable to be repatriated, but to verify Grønn’s involvement in this case. Yet, it seems as if their involvement will not be enough to quell public anger about “Valkyrian ignorance of Kliegmean societal norms.” This, amongst other anti-Valkyrian sentiment, has risen this June due to PM Benett’s provocative attitude regarding international accusations against his radical drug policies.

The criminal proceedings have been yet to begin. Individual soldiers are still in question as many did not know of the situation until their surrender.

Authorities in charge of investigating the recent smuggling has made clear that it has:

  1. Recieved information that will be used in investigations from Grønn, and has stated its appreciation of cooperation.
  2. deduced that Current Evidence strongly points towards Grønn’s leadership was unaware of the actions of the smugglers, but is unable to determine, as of now, whether an insider from the company was involved.
  3. formally requested an judicial cooperation to Valkyria, in order to determine if the smugglers have misused “products” from Grønn on their own accords, or if it was an unauthorised action from within the company.

As Grønn hits national headlines, its unique way of running a buisness was also met with great interest from the public. Economists comment that, while owing its current control over the market due to government subsidies and connections, making it near-impossible to be recreated in Kliegme’s Social Market Economy, it is still an unique and promising case of a Workplace Democracy, resembling an Anarchist Commune in its way of management.

Unlike Grønn, the Valkyrian Government’s claims dismissing the arrests as politically motivated was not met with positive nor neutral perception. The Kliegmean perception of Valkyria is not expected to get better any time soon if this trend continues.

In the Peonic Parliament, there is a hefty debate on codifying the Do not attempt rescucitate (DNAR) orders.

Currently the law is not recognized by the state and has caused much friction with medical specialists. A recent lawsuit “Chu v Mianping General” where said mr. Chu was a patient rescucitated by doctors in Mianping General Hospital, Chu had a DNR order signed by another doctor but “not suffering from debilitating terminal illnessses.”

The issue has split the internet as ethical discussions on DNAR orders and even Voluntary Euthanasia (which has yet to be codified as well).

Ryccia has summoned the Valkyrian ambassador to protest the creation of the “Green Road Initiative”, calling the program “an irresponsible and disrespectful venture to other states bordering on implicit interference. Although both our countries, Ryccia and Valkyria, have decriminalized drug use to various levels, policy relating to this issue is a sensitive matter that should be determined domestically by each country. It would do the Valkyrian state good if it didn’t go out of its way to present itself as a drug dealer threatening the national security and domestic interests of other states, whether intentionally or not”.

During a questioning session in the storting, Valkyrian Prime Minister Steve Bennett fired back at the Ryccian government, calling the northern Cordilian government’s statement a “ludicrous claim”. The socialist leader called the Green Road Initiative a “campaign for human rights” throughout the world, citing the scores of people throughout who have been imprisoned for victimless crimes.

The Valkyrian prime minister also aimed the claim made by the Ryccian government that the Valkyrian government was “present[ing] itself as a drug dealer”. The Green Road Initiative, as the prime minister said, is led by a team of legal scholars whose expertise spans both civil rights and drug reform, “These people are not armed with guns but with pens.”

Civic Union member for Nordfhrient, Mr. Gaufrid Roethen, has commented on Stream that the Valkryian reply is “of poor taste” and “should be reviewed again”.

He continued, stating that “while I do believe drug reform should be a case in our Parliament, and that I have faith in upholding the inviolability of human dignity, I do not agree to the Green Road Initiative forcing its hands on its fellow peoples. If anything, it should negotiate with the Kliegmean government, and understand its view completely, the same way that the latter should also understand the former.”

When asked about the ongoing situation regarding the Valkryian “Green Road” initiative, Garovo Alertz stated: “I am not sure why this is being brought up. Ikaranara has not, nor have our fellow Indavral nations, ever considered legalizing non medicinal drugs of any kind. Considering that even getting a little tipsy is looked down upon by our society, I think that everyone who understands the country they live in understands that we are incompatible with this initiative of the Valkryian government.”

The Kilegmean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced Valkyrian Inconsistency, as they have not responded to their request of Judicial Cooperation, and refused to share information regarding the Valkyrian nationals who were arrested, despite claiming that they have “promised cooperation to see the Kliegmean investigation to the end.”

It has stated that if relevant information and retraction of its claims of a case of literal smuggling being called a Political Arrest, it will sadly have to consider Valkyria to be deliberately acting against the health of the Kliegmean people.

Authorities state that evidence points more strongly towards an insider in Grønn, as both information from the arrested Valkyrians and information provided by Grønn accumulate. As such, Valkyrian cooperation is necessary for this.

The Valkyrian National Police has rejected the claims made by the Kliegmean foreign ministry, “Quite simply, investigations take time and are not open and shut in a single day like some TV shows would have you believe. We have served warrants to access Grønn’s CCTV footage and financial transactions and are pouring through the evidence as we speak. Once we find the footage and transactions of the arrested persons, we will transmit the evidence to the National Police attaché at the Valkyrian embassy in Mumiea. Furthermore, we have no evidence at this time that suggests wrongdoing at Grønn, as claimed by the Kliegmean foreign ministry.”
