NEWS ON THE NARCOTICS BILL 2024

An amendment by a member of the Besernian Liberal Democrats been tabled on the narcotics reform bill, suggesting that other psychoactives be legalised under the following conditions.

  • They are to fall under heavy import, production and possession guidelines of other hazardous chemicals, and would be intended for study and research use,
  • Mass-scale commercial production would be prohibited, as would any sale intended for consumption; and
  • They would be labelled accordingly as “poison” or any other type of human hazard with note to other chemical safety labelling practices.

There has been opposition from the Party of Freedom and Democracy. The Besernian Civic Union is unlikely to support this proposal at this current time, though they are still open to hear more about its effects and implications.

The far-right Besernian Conservatives have attacked every other party in the Diet for “bowing down to Valkyrian conspiracies and risking the lives of our children”; though a member of that did speak out against that line, after reiterating the possible use in averting tobacco addiction.

In the meantime, a new clause has been added to the bill, that "civilian transportation of the legalised substances by this bill to and from any foreign territory, i.e. through airports, through ports, by land crossing, are to be prohibited without permission by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. "

The bill is still heavily contentious, though support has increased in the Diet. A referendum amendment was turned down by a supermajority.
