Close In Proximity/Point Defense System (CIPDS) (Pronounced See-pds) is the catch all term for Interceptor or Point Defense Weapons on Serniani Vessels. These range from 50mm Flak Guns, to Laser Weapons designed to combat Missiles in their Sprint Phase. CIPDS also includes the radar systems needed to detect, lock and intercept, which can be helpful in a pinch if you are receiving a wall of fire and need to intercept.

"Cold" Launch

"Hot" Launch

“Hot” Launch
Technical Meaning

A Hot Launch is where a missile’s primary thruster is ignited in the launch tube, leading to it exiting quickly. The Callsign for Hot Launches is “Brawler.”

Missile Phases

Missile Phases
Technical Guide

Missile Phases are split into various phases. The first phase is call the Operational Programing Phase (OPP). This is where the missile is given instructions, like where it’s going, when to make a turn, when to activate decoys, when to activate validation measures, etc. The second is the boost phase, (BP), in which the missile exits the tube and begins heading towards the target. The third phase is called the scanning or sprint phase (SP). During the SP, the missile is heading towards the target and is actively “Sprinting” towards the target. The last phase is called the Impact Phase (IP). In the IP, the missile either hits the target, or misses, and attempts to come around again to hit the target or explodes after running out of fuel.

IFE

IFE
Acronym

IFE stands for Ion Force Engine. An Ion Force Engine maximizes efficiency, and Thrust to Weight Ratio. It might not be the fastest or most maneuverable engine in the sector, but makes up for modularity in being able to equip a battlecruiser or a starcraft with the same engine with a few minor adjustments.

To the “east” (or “spinward”) lay an arc of stars the Lenyakei called “the Great Wall”, recalling the legend of a similar wall that once deterred barbarians from the north. (Not that it ever worked, mind you.) It represented a potential bounty for the Demarchy and her people, especially when the “west” was practically empty.

But it only took a short while to get public and private interests aligned, and soon, the 1st Spinward Expedition set off from Beisai’s Howayek Fleetyards, with two Qesenang class cargo transports, three Tawûs class exploratory frigates, and 236 brave souls. Well, either brave, or really, really foolish.

The nearest star system was 18 light years away, and so the crew - half of whom are Kapahen, due to their innate wanderlust - prepared for the long haul.

A couple weeks have passed, and the Expedition reaches their first destination: a red dwarf star, with two planets and an outer dust belt. Preparations are made to drop out of warp and prepare for surface missions, and the crew gets excited for their first official field trip.

Little do they know, they are being watched.

The expedition burns into a high orbit around the first planet from the star, a warm Neptune-sized planet with 8 small moons. Robotic probes plummeted and disappeared into the beige-white clouds, confirming a high concentration of antimatter in the magnetosphere - perfectly positioned to refuel interstellar vessels - and a helium-rich atmosphere.

Meanwhile, a Kapahen communications officer by the name of “Lazarek” who fell asleep at the desk wakes up to see unusual results in their idle surveying. Some kind of static, they assume, before consulting their Primaly colleague.

|Hey Oztala, you seeing this? These lights appear outta nowhere, burn bright for about five minutes, then bam - nothing.| They point to the screen, where a cluster of lights are indeed moving. |You think it could be aliens?|

The green-feathered avian’s eyes narrow as she looks closer, before she turns back to Lazarek. <I dunno. Let’s tag ‘em, see if we can find ‘em after a couple days.>

|Alright.| They sit back at their desk, staring at the pinpricks of light as they estimate their orbits. Surely they must be an in-system phenom- what. the hell. was that.

They watched a contingent of those distant lights - no less than 6 - detached from the main group. As the bits and bytes connected, the white-scaled eastie’s eyes widened.

|Oh Mazu.|

Within the shichen (时辰, 2 hours) the surface team was back on board; after the second shichen, the fleet was on full combat alert. These interlopers represented a threat; they could potentially kill Lenyakei expansion into the Great Wall.

Pray to your gods, Lannies. Who knows what’s on the other side?

The lights in the QLF turn off briefly, before turning back on a light blue. An automated voice the crew are accustomed to screams out

Scramble! Scramble! Alert Crews to their Starcraft! Scramble! Scramble!

The Flight Deck is a symphony of chaos as crews move their SSF-308 Savants into their launch bays. Outside, the three remaining Firelight Corvettes move into a triangle around the three cruisers as calls are being made. The First Three o Eights are sent spaceward and eventually the twenty four starcraft race out to join the Nightshade, Polymers, and Firelights.

“Three o Eights are scrambled and are off the deck. All units push vector 220 Referencing off the Hex.”

In the deep blue of the command decks, everything and everyone was silently going through pandemonium. A chaos so fluid, one could say it was perfectly orchestrated.

Missile compartments were loaded, ready to launch at a millisecond’s notice; all scopes were pointed at the array of nine fast-moving objects in the gravity well. And when radar and gravitic sensors failed, they resorted back to good ol’ fashioned visual observation.

The fleet would dock together, meeting on the Kosatka to discuss strategies and whether to send a message. The vote was unanimous - they would compile the standard Xenosophont Greeting Package, tack on a message from Expedition command, and broadcast it on all frequencies.

They undocked from one another, and fearfully watched the distant lights grow brighter.

———

A probe shot out of the hot Neptune’s gravity well, out of jamming range, and began broadcasting the message. In the midst of everything, some folks managed to keep their heads in one piece, and added pictures and videos that would hopefully convey a message of “you no shoot, we no shoot” and “we’re just exploring”. You know, the good stuff.

Hopefully the incoming battlegroup could pick up the message.

“I’d love to, unfortunately due to it not being a sanitized space, there is a very high likelihood that an infection, common for you or me, to spread and infect a large portion of our crews, respectively. Currently, in Atlia, it’s about 20~ Light Years away, we got word that they’re sanitizing a space for you guys. So, once you finish up here, you’d be wise to make some calls back to your government and explain your situation. We’ll be waiting. Meet us at Planet Six’s Fourth Lagrange Point. THE MOON IS QUITE LITERALLY AN AIRLESS 30 KILOMETER LONG TUBER, BUT SURE. FAIR WINDS, COMMANDER SARASOTA.

Commander Min closes the feed and turns to their subordinates.

|Alright. Let’s bring the probe back in, and get a word to Beisai. Looks like they’re inviting us to a sleepover. Also, flag the “Directorate” vessels as non-hostile. Don’t want to start a war now.|

The crew copies. Lazarek and Oztala sneak a view of the target star system - real-time images display bustling traffic throughout the various planets and moons, not unlike their own system. Then it’s back to work.

[… so, apparently, they found a new Human civilization across the Wall. This is gonna be … fun, to say the least. My love, what do You think?]

[I… I don’t know. I don’t have your level of foresight or anything. Best we can do is wait out, and plan for any occasion. If they could help us out get back to our world, we’ll take it.]

[Alright, hun. Sounds like a plan.]

Dawn’s Respite

DNIV Dawn’s Respite
Defiance Class Stealth Battlecruiser

The last design of the Former Federation, the Defiance Class is a marvel of Serniani Engineering, it’s low visibility construction utilizing light composite materials and a classified emission hiding technology allows the ship to stay nearly stealthy while in realspace. Defiance Class Vessels stayed in service with Directorate Naval Intelligence, and have been constantly upgraded and updated with new capabilities.

The ships reach their destination and hold their positions, watching and waiting

So, the Expeditionaries set up an FTL communications probe, and relay the good news back to Lenyakei central. The Outer Space Committee has a heart attack and a half upon hearing how First Contact went, and as it just so coincides with the Lunar New Year, government authorities drop the news as fireworks adorn the skies of every inhabited world.
It’s mostly framed in a positive light - “let’s hope these we can make friends with these new Seriani folks!” - but some people are still very much concerned for the safety of those brave souls, stranded beyond the Great Wall…

——————

Meanwhile, the expeditionaries take a well deserved break from endlessly surveying the system, which turns out to be moderately stocked with rare metals and antimatter. After the 15 days of celebrations are over, they plot a course with the new Seriani star map, and slip out of the system.
It’s only three more months; how bad could it be?

Calio felt the rush of energy as his SSF-308 “Savant” exited the relay. The small but nimble craft exited the gate, when he saw his comms light up. His Fiancee, Laurisa was calling him

“Hey Honey. Where’d you go?”

Three months have passed, and the Demarchy’s fleets decelerate from a hyperbolic slingshot into Atlian’s gravity well. Having sustained themselves on rations, hydroponic vegetables and fungi, and whatever snacks they’d bother to bring, dressing up and eating alien food is starting to sound quite appealing. Decontamination procedures were double-checked, docking ports are jury-rigged to fit the Altian design, and everyone made sure to get a shrimpful night’s sleep ((OOC: can’t relate)) before approaching the station the next day.

Approximately twelve seconds after the directions are sent, the fleet transmit a signal back.

A large Hangar inside AMPAS neatly fit the ships inside. The area inside AMPAS appeared bustling in activity, in stark contrast to the Disembarkation facilities. A few of the younger members walked up to the windows nearby and excitedly chatted amongst themselves

Nearly all scattered upon seeing the older Senior Command Master Chief Petty Officer (SCMCPO) Violet Lateria, as she walked into and exited the airlock, checking the airlock, checking the doors to see if they’re able to close it.

She clicks a button on her suit
