After six more months of gruelling, brutal combat the attack on Crimsica was repelled. The SATRA blockade streched League logistics and allowed for widespead orbital bombardment. Despite some retaliation, the fallout was not as bad as expected. The battle ended with a counteroffensive by the League’s navy, which allowed for most of the remaining assets to be evacueted. The Battleof Crimsica would spark debates among strategists, which were forced to rethink the role of the navy in conventional warfare.
The reorganized USPR military managed to push back the overstreched League advance on several fronts, reclaiming much of its previously lost territory. Crucial in that were the new People’s Shock Batallions, veteran units retrained according to the SATRA model. Despite that, any records of Syndicate involvement would be redacted, instead praising the new shock batallions as heroes of the revolution. They would adopt a symbology that mixed those of the USPR and Syndicate, though its origins remained mysterious.
Two months after the Battle of Crmsica the final offensive of the war would take place on the world of Pernambuco. It would be ended by the signing of an armestice and then a peace deal. The conflict would be mostly frozen along the lines of control, with both sides trading territory as a result. It was clear however, that after licking their wounds both sides would be looking for a rematch.
The word of the Syndicate would spread around the Republic, despite no proper first contact ever taking place. People would flock to Salidar, a previously backwater world expected to be swallowed by one of the states within the League, in hopes of striking it big by getting involved in one of the Syndicate’s mercenary groups or smuggling routes. Some passionate explorers went there in search of rumours about the Voidsea, which they hoped to discover and hopefully reach. The Syndicate’s secrecy about its origins only accelerated its growth into an urban legend, promising vast riches to those who would manage to find a route to there.
And so, for the first time, the Republic was at peace.
