Meet the RATS - a introduction to the RP series

The Rats are the crew of the free ship Ephyra, a independent privateer ship based in the voidsea. They are all misfits, disgraced members of their respective societies that left their lives behind for a life of adventure in the voidsea

Ratz will be a series of RPs following the crew of the Ephyra, who will also appear in other RPs. This thread is going to be a introduction to the characters, with each RPer who’s part of the project making a post on their respectful rat.

Backstory

Born as the Daughter of a Family renowned for Naval Service within the Imperial Navy (with claims that this legacy goes all the way back to Pacifica under the Emeraldian Royal Navy), she had her career effectively already determined, she would be a Naval Officer.

Unfortunately, to be an Officer in the Imperial Navy, or least to get anywhere in terms of rank, one must follow fairly strict Imperial Code regarding things such as Interspecies Equality between Humanoids and Nonhumanoids, under Imperial Military Code, any Officer or Sailor espousing these ideals publicly were to be stripped of rank and discharged from the service. For Neva, she held these exact same views, but kept quiet about it for much of her life.

This allowed her to rapidly rise through the ranks as an Electronic Warfare Officer, although she was noted by several peers and superior officers that she would fit right in as a Tactical Officer as well. It was while she was serving as the EWO of the Electronic Warfare Frigate HIMS Robert G. Williams, which had been assigned to monitor an area in the Southern Territories recently experiencing a surge of Chr’Kahr Terrorism, where things went downhill.

During a routine meeting between the Officers and the Governor-General of the System they were monitoring, Neva made a remark about why they were here in the first place. When asked to further explain, she made the error of making an (apparently impassioned) speech about how the Government’s treatment of the Chr’Kahr was misguided, apparently, she was unaware that the Governor-General happened to have joined the meeting virtually.

Typically, this would result in a slap on the wrist by her CO, who apparently didn’t particularly care for this sort of thing, but with the Governor-General, a Man with many friends in the Admiralty, her Career had been torpedoed.

She was given a General Discharge from the Service and was sent back to her home Planet of New Avaria. Her family was understandably disappointed, although it was apparently more in her not being able to keep her mouth shut rather than being discharged.

Still wanting to at least do something with her life and acquired skills, she would head to the Voidsea, primarily to avoid the stigma of her Stained Military Record.

Name: Avetik
Age (at RATS formation): 20
Species: Darkon
Expertise: Hand to hand combat, ship construction and repair
Backstory: Avetik grew up as a member of the lower class in the lands of the Artaxian Dynasty. As a member of the shipbuilding guild he too would work in the dockyards of his local world. However he was dissatisfied with his life, primarily its monotony, though as he got older he began to feel some resentment towards the exploitative nobility of his world too.

At 16, he would join an illegal combat practice group (a trade reserved only to the highborn members of society). However as the organization became more involved in opposition to the local government, he would drift away from it. At 18 he would stow away on an UHS ship and leave the Artaxian Empire. Not finding himself at home there and afraid to head into the Free States, he would leave for the distant Voidsea.

Enamored by stories and legends he would aim to become a Freeblade, which is a caste of independent warrior nobility. Though most of them are mercenaries for more powerful noble families, darkon folklore often makes them into bandits and folk heroes. He also hoped that eventually he would attain enough fame to earn nobility.
