Flaming for Prime Minister 2026

Hello, I am Flaming! I am primarily a member of TSPRP here on the forums, but I have been observing TSPolitics for a while and since I was nominated I have decided to throw my hat in the ring.

My Primary Goals as PM
As PM, my primary focus will be on culture and integration. I think there are very strong bases for this, but in my opinion it could be better. We have seen, in my opinion, a sharp decline in the amount of new, regular forum users since a few years ago. Part of it, of course, is Frontiers, but even then we should push more people here and the discord. The ability to transform casual RMBers into Legislators, RPers, and members of the SPSF is vital so that TSP remains strong even as veterans step away from the game.

My main focus here, is making every aspect of TSP more visible. Most RMBers are likely only going to see the WFE, any factbooks that are pinned or close to the top, and whatever is telegramed to them. We should use these methods of communication to inform them more about the goings on of the TSP government. It has always seemed off to me, that the “Government” of TSP has so little on-site presence. We could be facing legislative upheaval and the average resident of TSP would have no clue.

My main goals, as actionable things, are:

  • To expand the (Already quite nice) South Seas Gazette to include a wider variety of regional topics, including legislative efforts, roleplay events, and military goings-on.

  • Expand the variety of culture events to include things for people who like to write, roleplay, etc.

  • Increase the likelihood of people actually seeing these things, via utilizing more channels of communication: particularly the factbooks on the WFE, and telegrams.

These are not my only ideas on this matter, but these are the ones I consider to be the most actionable and can therefore promise.

However, Culture and Integration aren’t the only ministries: So here is what I think about the others.

  • Defense: The SPSF is a highly competent organization, and I don’t think there are any organizational shifts that need to happen. I plan on including the SPSF in my broader mission to get more eyes on more parts of TSP. As raiders are weakened, I have some ideas on how we might keep readiness, but I want to run those by SPSF officials to see if they’re plausible, first.

  • Foreign Affairs: I’d like to host more cross-regional events, to strengthen our relationships with our allies and to create new bonds, as well as to get more eyes on TSP: I feel like we take for granted being a Feeder, but the ability to advertise and draw players to the region is, in my opinion, just as important, and something we could learn form our allies.

The cabinet itself: I plan on hosting a fairly large cabinet. Most ministries, particularly Culture, and Foreign Affairs, I expect to have multiple members aside from the minister. This is both to increase government participation and to make things easier. These two roles (names subject to change) would be Deputy Ministers and Secretaries. Deputy Ministers are, like the minister, roles of high trust, where they are expected to be able to carry out their duties. Secretaries are lower-trust, “training” roles which may be doing less sensitive tasks. This is primarily to allow new people, interested in a role, to start learning from it in a low-risk environment with many experienced people to teach them.

Conflicts of interest: None. I have never been a resident of any region other than TSP, nor have I participated in the government of any other region.

My previous experience is a term as Minister of Roleplay, and I am also a map manager for the Pacifica and Aurora canons, as well as a moderator for A1-0.

Can you elaborate on your vision for culture?

In particular,

  • Does your goal of on-site presence include culture events as well?
  • Do you have a vision for what specific types of events you think should be run and how often?

What would be your approach to the World Assembly as Prime Minister? What efforts would you undertake to boost our WA endorsement counts?

Yes, I want to hold more events on NS itself. I think this administration has done some cool stuff such as with the RMB mayor, but I think we can do more in that regard.

I do have a vision for some events. The first one I would look towards implementing is a sort of “Writing/rp competition” through dispatches, since that one should be easiest. I will definitely be taking ideas from the community and RMB, as well.

The WA is definitely an important facet of NS, and a good way to start getting involved. I think that SWAN and such are possibly as good as they could be, but I think we can still do more; we could include a section on OWL’s reasoning, for instance, in the South Seas Gazette, or host more public debates about the WA. Perhaps we can also send the occasional SWAN poke in the RMB, although I wouldn’t want to flood the RMB with stuff like this. I will definitely be working with the Delegate in this matter.

We have already got a structure of Cabinet, I don’t think it is up to the Prime Minister of TSP to go about changing that structure willy nilly. I also think it is very ambitious of you to run for Prime Minister going from only merely observing straight to the top job.

You can debate the merits of Flaming’s proposal for a large Cabinet, but I think it’s very much within the Prime Minister’s power to construct the Cabinet however they want. The switch from electing all Cabinet ministers to electing a Prime Minister only was in part designed to facilitate this, no?

I thought so too, but our current Prime Minister instilled in me some confidence that at least throwing my hat in the ring was worth it, so I have decided to do so. I’m not going in with the expectation of winning in comparison to the more obvious picks, but I’m still going to run a proper and serious campaign as if I could feasibly win.

  1. I have seen various cabinet structures, and I’ve also seen ministries (I.E, the MoRP that both Maverick and I served in) created and removed at the will of the PM. I believe I’ve also seen a ministry absorbed into the PM’s personal powers. Also, citing article V, sections 2 and 3 of the Charter:

What this appears to mean to me, is that as long as the relevant officials are properly confirmed by the Assembly, the PM is permitted to organize the cabinet in any way they see fit, barring giving ministers powers that they don’t have, and that there is no constitutional requirements for the method of operation for any ministry.

  1. I don’t think that this will be that radical of a change. In practice, it just means that ministers will have some official subordinates, some more experienced, some less experienced. I am sorry if my wording caused any undue confusion on this part.

I’ll be directing the same questions to all PM candidates.

In the course of Assembly debates regarding the next Chair, the idea has been raised that the government should or could have an affirmative legislative agenda, akin to what we see in many RL parliamentary democracies. Which raises three questions:

(1) Do you believe that the TSP executive should have an affirmative legislative agenda, and why / why not?
(2) Will your government be pursuing a legislative agenda if elected Prime Minister?
(3) If so, what are your legislative priorities?

I personally don’t think that a legislative agenda is that important for a Prime Minister. In real life, there are many things that are tied up in Legislative power, like taxes and most forms of spending, healthcare and social services, etc. In game, there’s not really any consistent legislative agenda, in my opinion, that need to be addressed almost constantly, since TSP doesn’t really have an “economy”. I think this is consistent with how the legislative and executive are entirely seperate entities, as well. Unless there is an issue with a law that affects executive function (Like the SPSF, Foreign Affairs, etc) I don’t think the Executive needs to pursue an agenda.

In line with this, I don’t plan on having any specific legislative agenda. If something comes up, I will offer my opinion, but there’s not any specific laws that come to mind at the moment.

I just wanted to stop by and say that while you won’t be my top choice in this election, I think this is one of the most honest, thoughtful, and promising “domestic first” campaigns for PM that we have seen in quite some time.

If your campaign isn’t successful, I hope you are included in serious Cabinet or sub-Cabinet initiatives in the next administration and that you’re given pathways to involvement in some external affairs, so you can amplify your chops in those areas in a future campaign.
