Election of the Chair for May 2026

Hello, members of the assembly:

As the term of @KrisKringle is finishing on May 1st 2026, we may elect a new chair.

Have a good day, Hamborn

Thanks for getting this started!

@KrisKringle do you have any desire to keep serving as Chair? I personally would support that but am open to others throwing their hat in the ring.

@Hamborn, you started the topic and have expressed interest in proposing laws. Do you want to make a draft resolution? You can use the ones that we have passed in the past as templates.

Yes I could do that

Yes, I would be amenable to continuing as Chair.

@KrisKringle’s term as Chair, I have felt, has been unsatisfactory. Most of this comes down to his unwillingness to appoint Deputy Chairs. The Deputy Chair is both a lower-level position which can be helpful for integration and elevating newer members in our government, and it also covers the Chair when they’re less available. During Kringle’s current term, we’ve seen delays in bringing discussions to vote, which have in multiple instances had people privately debating amongst themselves whether or not to utilize the second sentence of Article 2 Section 6 of the Legislative Procedure Act. While the delay from Kringle was due to IRL circumstances, they could have been entirely mitigated by having a Deputy. I’d be happy to support Kringle as Chair if he’s willing to endeavor to appoint one or two Deputies, but otherwise I cannot support him.

I agree, we should hace deputy chair/clerks

And I think we should nominate deputy/clerks. It would be helpful for the assembly and for when @KrisKringle can’t because of RL circumstances.

I think @KrisKringle has been a very valuable member of our community and has served okay, but maybe not exceptionally, as Chair.

It is clear that @Hamborn has shown ambition to serve the South Pacific in the Assembly. I think he should be given the chance to expand his knowledge and experience in the position as Deputy Chair, if he’s willing.

I would support @KrisKringle if he’s willing to nominate @Hamborn, or another capable legislator, to be a Deputy Chair.

Mr Chair.

I concur with the Prime Minister and Legislator @Lucasson.

Legislator @Hamborn has shown great committment and drive in matters relating to the Assembly. He would make an excellent Deputy Chair and this would be a great role for a newer Legislator to get good experience.

Additionally, Legislator @eternalraven213 could also potentially be another good Deputy Chair.

I can promise to give fair consideration to the appointment of a management team, but any promises as to the appointment of specific people as a precondition for election feels inappropriate to me.

I agree with Kringle. I do not think we should be nominating Deputies here. There is a reason the Chair appoints them and not the Assembly, it’s the same reason the PM appoints their Cabinet: to ensure a group that can work together. While I strongly disagree with Kringle’s previously expressed sentiment of not wanting to appoint Deputies, I do trust him to be able to appoint capable members should he be willing to change his mind.

Thank you for your support. I’m always willing to help where I can.

Does the Assembly have any further thoughts or concerns before we proceed to drafting a resolution?

A thought I would like to get off my chest:

Many people have felt a period of stagnation last year, and it has been a common complaint that TSP was lacking in ways to get involved. Activity and engagement are top of mind, and the last two executive administrations have really put this front and center. I have been so, so happy to see the ship slowly start to be righted: a Cabinet finally filled, cultural activity, opportunities created, etc.

The Assembly, through it all, waxes and wanes. It was never as dramatic of a decline as the executive, but we get bursts of activity around scandal or elections, then long periods dead. There has for quite a while now been no clear effort from Assembly leadership to promote activity or build up a new group of administrators. It has been since Welly (I think) that a chair has had something of a legislative agenda.

I think it’s time we ask a bit more of the chair, and elect someone that has the future and activity of the institution in kind.

In particular, I would like to see:

  • A commitment to the appointment of a Deputy and Clerk (though I wholeheartedly agree with Kringle that it is ridiculous to insist on a name ahead of time)
  • A clear legislative agenda of realistic size for the term
  • A willingness and desire to explore administrative ways to promote engagement and education, and some stated ideas beforehand (one could have many conversations about this and I would very much love to!)

I’m not saying that can’t be Kringle, only that thus far it hasn’t been Kringle. I would appreciate his and others thoughts.

If you are looking for a Chair with a clear legislative agenda, as in a list of bills to pass that either create new law or amend existing law, then I think you will need to find a different candidate because I do not consider it the Chair’s duty to set a legislative agenda; that should come from either the government or individual legislators.

If you wish to have a discussion on engagement and public outreach, that discussion can be had.

I’d like to insert my name into the hat for Chair, for the Assembly’s consideration. My goals for a term would be:

  • Appoint Deputy Chairs to assist with my legislative agenda and Clerks to process the administrative tasking. Plural on both is the expectation, I would like a team that can do the various jobs we want a Chair to do.
  • Pursue broad reforms of aspects of our government and legislation, in chunks. My first priority is reforming the executive, followed by some ideas I have bouncing around for the Assembly.
  • Work with the integration team on minor tweaks to our onboarding process for new legislators.

I recognize this is not a wholly comprehensive plan, but I do fully intend to pursue reforms as the Chair, across many aspects of our government.

I nominate @HumanSanity for Chair because he already have experience to make to chair.

If the Assembly truly wants to go in that direction please by all means do so, in which case this will be it for me as Chair.

I accepted the Chair because I enjoyed the prospect of an administrative position and while I’m open to taking the view of the Assembly that deputies/clerks are warranted, and appointing them accordingly, I did not sign up for a policy-driven job that requires a legislative agenda.

I also nominate myself for Chair because their is a lot of differance of my January 2026 campaign and I lacked of politics learning, now, I experienced political learning in these 3 months.

I would do the same thing that I promised in my last one : make a better politics learning for new ones (Better understansting of laws…)

could you explain this with more details?
