I think the issue with gateway ftl is one of sizing. Big portals or portals not optimized for space travel are not going to be able to move that well

While a solution to the problem, I think we just don’t want Portable wormholes, not that wormholes no longer exist and you may not use them

I think we just have to remove wormholes as I have described them entirely. There’s not really any way for them to be non-portable, unless we like, make them a lot more massive even at nanoscopic sizes.
I mean, we could introduce the need for asymptotically flat space, but that wouldn’t really make them less portable. It would just limit them from being very far out in star systems.
I think it’s a bit deeper than that. All gateways have to be constructed, I think the issue is that it’s so small. If you can transport the mini wormholes and the nanites in an orange-sized container, it’s that much harder to stop its construction. There’s no transport ships making journeys with pre-built segments or the parts needed to build the gateway, all it takes is one person reaching a point with enough resources or access to resources. In an ABT canon where there’s going to be more interactions between nations and inevitably more conflict, it should not take only one person crossing the sector to set up a new portal system.
@Galaxiel there just has to be a balance. I personally am leaning more towards it being harder to transport via it being bigger/heavier or needing more than just self-replicating nanites to get the infrastructure, but we’re also not here to just police you. This issue only arose because as a community we did not set a proper standard of what should be allowed

Tomorrow I should have the time to work out some measurements and new limitations. Got some new ideas about how wormholes could be produced and how they’d be right after being created, that would probably balance it all more.
