As many of you are likely aware, we’ve received a range of feedback about our moderation practices. We want to acknowledge that we’ve made mistakes in our moderation decisions and processes, and extend our thanks for keeping us accountable.
We know that one particular area of concern has been a post made by Senior RMB Moderator Drystar. While we are discussing the matter both internally and with Drystar, we do regret both the substance and tone of the post. It did not meet the standards of decorum and professionalism that we expect from all our moderators. Regardless of the outcome of that investigation, we have already had, and will continue to have, conversations with our team as a whole about the ways in which we communicate moderation decisions and respond to criticism.
We are also still in the process of sifting through the structural and systemic issues with our moderation practices and identifying the ways in which we can improve. Some of the changes we’re making have been publicly visible; you may have seen the new ticket system on Discord for requesting moderator assistance, HumanSanity’s return to our moderator team, or a few recent bans. Other changes have gone into effect behind the scenes; we have a new Discord channel to provide clear lines of communication between RMB moderators and the team at large.
That said, we also recognize that this is an ongoing process for us. We’re working on a number of changes, including better alignment between RMB and global moderators, a more streamlined appeals process across our platforms, and greater clarity internally on what actions moderators can take individually.
We’ll follow up publicly about how we’re changing our moderation practices when we have more details ironed out. In the meantime, Roavin has shared more context elsewhere.
Please feel free to reply with any questions or comments, whether general or specific. If you have any comments that you’d like to share with us more privately, you can also message any moderator privately and ask them to relay your comments for you.
