The Admiralty is tasked with periodically changing our rank requirements to keep up with the constantly changing state of NationStates military gameplay. As our rank requirements haven’t been updated in a long time, there are some gaps in what SPSFers are required to know for promotion. These changes, which include knowledge about frontier mechanisms and stricter chasing time requirements, among other things, will modernize our force and ensure that our members are up to speed with the state of defending today. Without further ado, here are the updated requirements:
Cadet
Objective criteria:
Applied for and been accepted into the military
Subjective criteria:
Ensign
Objective criteria:
Demonstrate basic understanding of update mechanics
Understand that regions update in a set order
Identify when a nation or region has updated during update
Prepare multiple nations for use during a single update
Demonstrate basic familiarity with in-update skills
Switch World Assembly membership from one nation to another within 15 seconds during an update
Move a nation based on a trigger (within 3 seconds)
Move a nation and endorse another nation based on a trigger (within 8 seconds)
Identify nations admitting to the World Assembly in a given region
Manage adding nations to and removing nations from the dossier
Follow a nation into a region (within 3s)
Follow a nation into a region and endorse the existing Delegate there (within 8 seconds)
Familiarity with regional controls
Detagging a region
Participate in 5 updates within the past 3 months
Subjective criteria:
Demonstrate understanding of responsibilities and privileges of SPSF membership
Demonstrate ability to follow arbitrary orders phrased in battlefield-typical terms
Lieutenant
Objective criteria:
Demonstrate basic familiarity with triggering:
Consistently set defender-controlled trigger nations within 30% of the intended time
Consistently call trigger nations within 3 seconds of actual update time
Demonstrate basic understanding of influence mechanics:
Understand how influence is gained or lost in regions with a Governor
Calculate the influence costs of banjections, ejections, bans, regional passwords, and frontier transitions
Use the activity feed to identify stealth raids, sleeper movements, and other irregular happenings
Participate in 20 updates within the past 6 months
Subjective criteria:
Demonstrate an understanding of current update time
Demonstrate the ability to lead smaller operations using battlefield-typical terms
Demonstrate the ability for clear and level-headed communicate with other military officers regarding operational cooperation
Captain
Objective criteria:
Demonstrate greater familiarity with triggering:
Consistently set defender-controlled trigger nations within 20% of the intended time
Consistently set a trigger off another nation within 30% of the intended time
Consistently call trigger nations within 2 seconds of actual update time
Understand the mechanics of update bending
Demonstrate greater understanding of influence mechanics:
Understand how influence is gained or lost in all regions
Collect and analyze influence data from a region to model projected influence changes over time
Demonstrate the ability to ban and eject nations moving into a region during update (within 3 seconds per nation)
Be familiar with liberation strategies (sieges, attrition runs, fake puppetmaster)
Be familiar with region occupation and griefing strategies (flash password, refounds, fortify)
Be familiar with stealth strategies (instant jump points, false flags, sleepers)
Participate in 40 updates within the past 12 months
Subjective criteria:
Demonstrate the ability to craft a battle plan for any arbitrary set of planned operations in one update
Demonstrate the ability to quickly adapt to fast-changing circumstances in the heat of battle
Demonstrate knowledge of various strategies, and an ability to draw upon that knowledge to craft a plan for a large scale operation
Demonstrate the ability for clearly and level-headed cooperation with affected native residents for incoming and ongoing raids
