Meanwhile his 2 main controversies:
I’ll post this again here for folks who don’t have access to Discord. I’m not sure I agree with all of the conclusions, but some of these charts are very ugly for Democrats. It’s hard to imagine the party winning a national election with such a yawning gap between their positions and those of the median voter.

Most Americans are moderates, it’s just a matter of gaining their support

The third edition of this political discussion thread has arrived. Many thanks to Kringle for reopening this thread.
We have a new first post to highlight the coming changes in the American political scene. Donald John Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on 2025-01-20T19:00:00Z, becoming the second president to serve two nonconsecutive terms (bonus points to whoever can correctly state the other president who served two nonconsecutive terms!).
Due to cold weather in our nation’s capital, the inauguration will be moved indoors to the Rotunda in the US Capitol. All ticketholders are being told not to come–the tickets are now just a souvenir. No visitors/attendees will be allowed in the Capitol, though there will be a nearby watch party at DC’s Capital One Arena.
I’ll also note that we do have two important elections during the 2025 electoral cycle.
Virginia will hold its gubernatorial election. It’s shaping out to be a race between Republican Winsome Sears, the state’s lieutenant governor, and Democrat Abigail Spanberger, a former US Representative and CIA operative. Despite Virginia’s leftward lean, the state elected Republican Glenn Youngkin as its governor in 2021. The state also shifted towards the right in 2024, especially with college-educated and minority voters in Northern Virginia.
If Virginia voters aren’t happy with the Trump administration, they’ll likely pick Spanberger.
New Jersey is also holding its gubernatorial election. Incumbent Democratic governor Phil Murphy is also term-limited like Youngkin, and the state is looking for a fresh face to lead. The state has tacked considerably towards the right in recent years, especially with minority voters in the New York metro area. The Democratic primary is shaping out to between US Reps. Mikie Sherrill and Josh Gottheimer. Republicans will likely pick between state senator Jon Bramnick and former state assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli.
Grover Cleveland was the other president who served two non-consecutive terms (1885 to 1889 and 1893 to 1897).
He also loved the veto pen. In his second term, Cleveland vetoed 414 pieces of legislation. That means, on average, he was vetoing two bills per week. Only two of his second term vetoes were overriden.
Won’t see much of that from Trump, at least not these two years. That is assuming Congress Republicans get their act together and give him things to sign in the first place.
1460 days to go…
So many dogshit EOs in the first day.
Oligarchy, yay!
1459 days to go
1458 days to go
During his last term, the Democrats gained a majority in the House during the midterm elections. Maybe it’ll happen again for this one and hopefully, Trump’s power and influence would be curtailed.
Also, 1457 days to go
Pete Hegseth is now the Secretary of Defense.
1450 more days to go
It now appears that both RFK Jr. and Gabbard will be confirmed. Ten years ago, if someone were to have told me that nearly every Republican Senator would be voting in favor of a pro-choice former Democrat for HHS and a Putin-friendly former Democrat for DNI, I would have worried for that person’s sanity. How times change.
What makes Trump think that he can just take Gaza without problems?
