World Cup Final
The final of the 2024 Rugby Union World Cup is between two teams that have exceeded expectations coming into the tournament. The favourite for this match must be the Stoinian team who have been finalists in 2 of the last 4 world cups, however they must field a weaker team after 9 of their strongest starting 15 face a match ban following the semi final against Keanu and Hurley.
They face Ryccia, a team who won’t have come into this tournament with much expectation of pressing through the group stages. However, they’ve proved to be a formidable force, with a certain psychological advantage that has made them seem unbeatable at times. Their star player in this tournament is Karl Alsinvie who at times has carried this Ryccian team through the group and knockout stages, often proving to be the difference.
The game started off at a blistering pace, with both teams getting on the score board in the first five minutes. This set the pace of the match through much of the opening half, with both teams being formidable in attack but weak in defence. By half time the Stoinian team had a 33-30 lead over the Ryccians, and as the players went to the changing rooms there was some agro between the players on the two teams and the ref. The Ryccian players complaining that the Stoinians had played a dirty game and that the ref had been too easy on them. One of the Ryccian players was yellow carded for the protest.
Early into the second half the Ryccians were awarded a penalty which was interrupted by a streaker on the pitch, the streaker was a slippery character and evaded capture for 2 minutes before play restarted and the penalty was converted as a matter of course by flyhalf Karl Alsinvie. From there the Stoinian team seemed to collapse, whilst the Ryccians gained their stride both offensively and in defence, for the rest of the match the Ryccians scored 3 tries, and the Stoinian team managed to score none, whilst losing 2 players due to disciplinary issues.
The match ended with Ryccia winning their first Rugby World Cup, and the Stoinian team once again going home from a World Cup final without any silverware.
The awards ceremony followed shortly after with the stadium remaining packed to both see the Ryccians crowned world champions and to see the Keanu team receive their third placed medals from King Keanu.
The medals being awarded to the kenauans were met with great jubilation and cheers from the crowd. This was in stark contrast to the Stoinian team who when they collected their second place medals were treated with booing and hissing from both the Keanuan locals and the Ryccian fans who felt that the Stoinian team had played in an unsportsmanlike fashion in both the final and semi final.
Finally the Ryccian national rugby team received a guard of honour as a sign of respect from the Kenaun rugby team as they received their gold medals from King Keanu. The rugby World Cup trophy was then produced by Jok Pike the captain of the reigning world champions Izaakia, who as per custom, personally handed the trophy to Karl Alsinvie the captain of the Ryccian rugby team. As Karl Alsinvie raised the trophy above his head confetti cannons and fireworks lit up the arena.
