A good joke, you say? THE CANADARM. Seriously, this little robotic arm designed by the Canadian Space Agency that is now used in the International Space Station (ISS) is such a JOKE as a concept.
I literally cannot read any space article regarding maneuvers/ spacewalks in the ISS without having to endure reading the word “CANADARM” being mentioned almost ten times. Like, seriously, what the heck is their problem. It’s almost like they are slapping that word onto my face every time i read it.
It’s almost as if someone in the Canadian Space Agency found out that “Canada” ends with an “a” and therefore they can combine it with the “a” in arm to create the word “CANADARM”. But seriously though, like WHY?? Why couldn’t they just name it a simple technical name like a normal space agency would? I can imagine some desperate marketing guy pitching the “Canadarm” concept to a boardroom with a serious face and how they would be able to subtly promote their country as well. Like It’s so try-hard vibes.
