Lore: The Great Colonization
February 19th, 2010

The Great Colonization is the name of an era used to describe the years 2010 through 2109. The name originates from Federation President Johnson’s ‘Opening of the Diet’ speech. The date correlates to an increase of colonial activity and research into the sciences. While colonization had been small scale and only for resource extraction, President Johnson’s declaration of a Great Colonization spurred a second space race, between Tempest Securities and the Central States.

Lore: XFE-21 “Birthright”
July 9th, 2035

During the Great Colonization, the first colonists of distant worlds like Nyx and Erebus used traditional methods like Hohman Transfers and Gravity Assists to travel to the outer planets in just under 25 years, the next wave of colonists and supply packages utilized new ion engines, xenon plus energy from fusion reactors to generate a highly efficient engine with a high vacuum thrust to weight ratio. Combined with a solar sail, ships could reach 10% the speed of light (5% without a sail), enough to get anywhere in the system within a few weeks, orbit dependent.

Due to the Birthright’s high success, ships and craft became distinct classes. The Morraine War College has generously provided definitions for the modern Pyxis Citizen.

“A Haulee is any object that operates in the vacuum of space, that CANNOT operate under its own propulsion and can have a pressurized atmosphere.”

“A Scooter (Space Context) is generally an unpressurized spacecraft, with a range of less than 500 kilometers.”

“An Artifical Satellite is any uncrewed object that can operate under its own propulsion, and usually doesn’t have a pressurized atmosphere.”

“A Spacecraft is any crewed object that operates in the vacuum of space, that can operate under its own propulsion and generally has a pressurized atmosphere.”

“A Ship (Space Context) is a spacecraft with a Xenon-Fusion Engine or Xenon-Fission Engine, with a length of at least 50 meters, crewed by at least 10 people.”

“A Space Station is a spacecraft that intends to remain at a fixed point, and may be expanded upon in some way.”

Lore: Geography of Elysium

Elysium is an ocean world, laid in blue waters for about 91.4% of the planet’s surface, with only three major continental landmasses. There are ice sheets at the poles that are not considered continents as they don’t contain land.

Rhadamanthus - The Largest, Asia-Adjacent. Tropical Climate.
Population - 1.1 Billion
The Elysium Federation has complete control of Rhadamanthus, overrunning the International Coalition Nations on the continent. Mountainous interior.

Minos - The Middle, America-European Adjacent. Temperate Climate.
Population - 593 Million
The International Dialogue of Nations (Now International Coalition) retains control of Minos. Large freshwater interior.

Aeacus - The Smallest, Africa-Australia-Oceania Adjacent. Savanna Climate.
Population - 418 Million
The Tempest Securities Corporation shares Aeacus with many smaller nations that are part of the International Coalition. Sprawling desert, population lives on the coast.

Oceans

Midoro - Pacific-Atlantic Adjacent
Lowest Depth - Orphic Tear (14,358m~)

The Ocean Midoro is the largest ocean in Elysium, wrapping around all three major continents. Volcanic islands exist with little human life. Large deposits of ore found far offshore. Mantle mining occurs in the Orphic Tear, to the dismay of environmental protests. Salty.

Karissa - Mediterranean Adjacent
Lowest Depth - Tinder Trench (5,059m~)

Karissa is an inlet ocean, surrounded by the three major landmasses. Scholars debate whether it’s an ocean or a sea. Plentiful with resources and minor islands of various allegiances. Salty.
