By Talia Vayna
A joint operation between Krauanagaz Federation and Emeraldian ground forces on Keluk’ka Island ended in disaster today as it resulted in the tragic death of five Mitallduk Confederacy citizens and dozens of military personnel. The operation aimed to neutralize the suspected Red K threat on the island, but the unfortunate incident has sparked grief and concern on an international scale.
The operation conducted by the Federal Navy of the Krauanagaz Federation and Emeraldian ground forces to rescue hostages from the suspected Red K hideout on Keluk’ka Island ended in tragedy. The operation was initiated following the detection of an “unusually strong radio signal” emanating from the southern Barrier Sounds, leading the forces to the island where the hostages were believed to be held.
As the KFNS Batakalan, a Sentinel Class Heavy Cruiser, approached the island, the unsuspecting ship fell victim to a sudden and devastating attack. Two heavy rockets, fired from an elusive drone that had managed to evade detection, struck the ship. The crew promptly set general quarters, successfully neutralized the attacking drone, and deployed forces to search the island for suspects and hostages.
However upon their arrival, both Emeraldian and Federation land forces were met with a hail of gunfire. A fierce firefight ensued, lasting approximately 45 minutes according to the Krauanagazan Department of Defense, as military personnel engaged with the assailants to ensure the safety of the hostages. Tragically, during the intense exchange of gunfire, five of the eighteen hostages lost their lives reportedly due to crossfire.
The intense firefight also resulted in the death of 19 gunmen, with two others critically injured. The wounded have been evacuated to Fort Lithin in Mayyamorot for emergency treatment. Additionally, the efforts of the Federal Navy and Emeraldian ground forces came at a heavy cost, with 28 Federation sailors and three Emeraldian soldiers losing their lives in the line of duty.
The Krauanagaz Federation swiftly responded with an official statement expressing deep regret for the loss of lives, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Mitalldukish nation. The Federation acknowledged the gravity of the situation and committed to a thorough and transparent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths and any potential lapses in operational procedures.
Krauanagaz emphasized its commitment to “maintaining open lines of communication with the Mitallduk Confederacy during this challenging time.” The Federation expressed understanding of the concerns and grief of the Mitalldukish people, pledging to collaborate closely with Mitallduk authorities, share all available information, and conduct a joint inquiry if deemed necessary.
