Ahh yes, domestic civil trials, truly an important international issue.
Tbh a lot of proposals that involve more domestic issues (at least in my opinion) as of late
Yea, but I wouldn’t say the WA legislating about procedures for civil disputes is all that important relative to other things.
I can see how this would be beneficial, however, in practice, everyone would prefer not to deal with or look at the paperwork sure to come after this-
I am with you there. I am against the vast majority of proposals that are focused on civil and domestic issues, this is no different. Just seems like a lot of the proposals coming up are not really international issues. Makes me curious as to why I suppose
I do support the goal of this proposal; I think everyone, regardless of wealth, should be able to use their country’s legal system when necessary. Because of that, this topic is something that I feel warrants the WA’s attention. However, this particular proposal is poorly written and not clear on how its provisions can be applied universally, including in countries that do not employ civil courts. Additionally, I don’t know why we would want to guarantee access to civil trials, but not criminal trials, which arguably deal with a more fundamental right (freedom of movement).
Even though it doesn’t address an international issue per se, I still think this is a beneficial piece of legislation to have, since it allows a person to receive a court proceeding, in spite of costs; even if criminal courts weren’t mentioned.
