Davids and Goliaths: Chalerosto-Galactyan first contact

“CAPTAIN, WE HAVE LOST THE ENGINE AND THE REMAINING COILGUN”

This was is, Riberdir thought. Did he fight valiantly? Was this truely the only solution?

“Captain, they’re charging up a weapon to end us. It is over”

Riberdir looks at his console, and suddenly sees it. He has just enough energy to fire the lance one last time, and thanks to Eithron.

“Number one, engage the self destruct sequence. We will not give them the honor of being the ones to end us. We’re exiting on our own terms”

While it is being prepared, the captain turns to the enemy ship, aiming the lance at the gun about to shoot them

“You won’t get us that easily, you son of a $#£√$”

The magnetic containment is released, and the lance fires

As another blue beam of energy is shot from the energy vessel, it hits the StarPulser that was charging up, deactivating it. These aliens really wanted to go down having the last laugh didn’t they?

Regardless of this, they had to be eliminated. Another StarPulser started charging up, ready to fire. Before releasing the final blow though, the Warship sent the enemy a short message.

THIS IS FOR CONFRONTING THE EMPIRE OF GALACTA.

But while the StarPulser charged and the aliens started preparing their self destruct sequence, something happened.

The energy levels in the area were… rising.

“captain, we’re detecting a large mirial presence. The signature matches… The Tararan”

Riberdir’s face lights up

“Disable self destruction sequence, here comes our savior”

Suddenly a massive energy pulse shakes the system, and out of mirial space emerges the INS ghost of death, better known as the Tararan, pride of the calerostan imperial navy. Largest of the starbrakers, only the throneship is comparable to it in size. It was designed to kill planetary populations, equiped with multiple kinds of WMDs, but today it was going to assert Calerostan dominance and make diplomacy afterwards.

The 10 kilometer long ship jumps to approximately 200km from the Quasar shooter, a very close range but necessary as it’s main goal was to save the spark in darkness. As it exits it’s state-of-the-art targeting computers almost instantly lock onto the alien ship, and the captain orders a barage, but makes a point of only damaging the ship.

4 heavy mirion lances and countless coilguns fire at the Quasar, demonstrating part of the ship’s heavy armament, and emediately afterwards sends a comms request

As the ship’s crew looked at the giant enemy vessel that just appeared in front of them with a gigantic energy pulse, they all said one thing in a strange and almost perfect unison:

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!

As soon as the Quasar Shooter started getting pelted with the enemy’s fire, the warship’s captain started shouting.

“Everyone, get back to your positions! Computer, start protocol OneAgainstMany !”

All of the computers came to life, their Auto-Aiming Programs locked onto the alien vessel. All of the StarPulsers came to life, and started shooting back at the enemy. The Secondary Hangar was briefly opened, and 200 attack drones were released. Two sideports opened, releasing two small RammerLight Torpedoes, shot at 30 times the speed of light. The Quasar’s attack drones were quickly being destoryed, but both of the ships were suffering notable strain, their shields gradually getting weaker.

The superluminal torpedos hit hard, but the shield holds. Ever since the Osbion manuver was first performed the imperial navy was working more and more on making their shields able to stop FTL targets, but the tech can’t fit on every ship. Luckily the tararan has no problem with space.

The ship quickly deploys it’s compliment of 4 spark-class corvettes: the Spark of genius, spark of ingenuity, spark of hope and Blinding spark, as well as 2 automated tugs to get the spark in darkness into a bay.

“Comms, open a chanel before we are forced to deploy WMDs” said commodore Hûlion, captain of the tararan. One of the most respected officers in the imperial navy, Hûlion has served since before even general Osbion. His service record was legendary, but he was already very old, in his 80s, but refused to retire.

"Alien ship, this is commodore Hûlion, captain of the INS Ghost of death, most well equiped and dangerous ship in the imperial navy. Power down your weapons and order your strike craft to turn back, or we will ne forced to use our large and diverse compliment of weapons of mass destruction to dispatch of you. You initiated hostilities by attacking the INS Spark in darkness, and we don’t want to end them by anihilating you as admiralty believes that a misunderstanding caused this. "

The Tararan was equiped with a translation matrix, a system of supercomputers and AI developed for quickly decifering foreign language. Hopefully it did a good job with whatever these xenos ware speaking

INS GHOST OF DEATH, THIS IS THE QUASAR SHOOTER OF THE GALACTYAN EMPIRE. YOU HAVE INITIATED HOSTILITIES BY TRESPASSING ON IMPERIAL TERRITORY AND ATTACKING THE EXPLORATION UNIT WE HAD SENT TO MEDIATE. REGARDLESS, WE ALSO BELIEVE THIS TO BE CAUSED BY A MISUNDERSTANDING, AND WE WILL DEACTIVATE OUR WEAPONS TO MEDIATE THE SITUATION.

“Quasar shooter, our ship fired nothing but warning shots which would clearly not hit your ship, the first proper attack was done by your side, but that is not important now. The Gill-Atarnie prefers to do diplomacy in person, so to avoid the complexity of beaming translations from the matrix between ships we suggest for you to send a delegation to us. You will be able to bring guards and will be welcomed with full honors and by me personally to mediate this issue, and pave the way for formal relations to be established between our countries.”

WE ACCEPT YOUR OFFER. A SHUTTLE WITH THE SYSTEM’S GOVERNOR AND HER APPROPRIATE ESCORT CREW WILL NOW DEPART FROM THE MAIN COLONY AND ARRIVE HERE IN 5 MINUTES AND 24 SECONDS. WHAT GASES DO YOU BREATHE?

“Oxygen is our main metabolic gas, the atmosphere in our ships is 30% oxygen, 69% nitrogen and 1% CO2 and other trace gasses. Hopefully this is breathable for your species”

IT IS. A STRANGE COINCIDENCE, IN ALL HONESTY. REGARDLESS, THE SHUTTLE HAS NOW ARRIVED.

Governor Asdariek was very, very conflicted about the situation. On one hand, the stress she had felt while the two giant warships fought was… indescribable, but on the other hand she now felt very relieved. At least the aliens were beings of reason. More or less.

As her shuttle opened it’s doors after having landed in the ship’s hangars, she watched in disbelief in front of her. There were many aliens waiting for them, most in an attire that was clearly for combat, while others were dressed more formally. It was not their appearance that confused her and the rest of the escort crew. They were bipedal, similar to a bunch of Galactyan Subspecies. Instead, it was how… awfully similar they all looked. Apart from skin tones, they all looked very alike.

It was very hard for the Galactyans to keep a straight face. And, unsurprisingly, the same was true for the aliens.

While the captain was making diplomacy, the tugs pulled the spark in darkness into a docking bay. Riberdir and his crew ware welcomed as heroes. Later in the day there would most likely be celebrations, but right now there was no time. Riberdir was given a dress uniform as he was to attend the meeting with the xeno governor.

Hûlion waited in the main hangar. This was the first time in the empire’s history that diplomacy would be made with a advanced civilization. He was dying to see them, and afterwards to unsee them.
The alien shuttle landed into the hangar. Soon around it came the honor guard, and as the shuttle opened they raised their swords in a solute. When the ambassador entered fear and dishust could be seen on the faces pf many, but they held their position as trained. The aliens ware… weird. Every single one looked different and unrelated, some looking highly unatural. Genetic modification was clearly at play, and that was disturbing to them.

“Welcome to our ship, governor.” Said commodore Hûlion, “i think that it’s best to skip right to the thing you’re here for and go to the meeting room. Multiple of my people are already waiting there for us”

Well, even though they didn’t seem too… calm at first, they certainly appeared much more peaceful now. That was good. Asdariek hadn’t had the time to stop and think about what was actually happening yet. Galactya was, for the first time ever, contacting an advanced alien civilization from outside the Nebulae, they fought for a while. and now she was on one of their ships, ready to mediate with their captain.

Still, she kept the straightest face she possibly could. She was pleased to see that the others looked unfazed as well, at least from the outside.

“A pleasure to be here, indeed. I am… displeased for the events that happened before. We both made mistakes. Regardless though, I’d be happy to go to your meeting room. I’m sure we have a lot to discuss.”

“then let’s go.”

The commodore takes the alien governor and his escort with him. He feels that they’re uneasy and stressed, but it is only expected in this situation. Soon they enter the room. There’s one lonely figure sitting in there and emediately it stands up and approaches them.

“Governor, this here is captain Riberdir of the INS spark in fire. He was commanding the ship your people engaged against”
Riberdir does a slight bow, as a sigh of respect

Asdariek extends one of her long black tentacles towards the alien captain, the bioluminescent markings shining with a fain pink light. As she does so though, she can see an uneasy look on the captain’s face. Therefore, to make things more comfortable for him, she extends another 4 tentacles and twists them together. The tentacles now form a shape that roughly looks and functions like the appendage of the captain. Seemingly more comfortable now, he shakes Asdariek’s tentacles. The Governor retreats her appendages and starts talking.

Greetings Captain Ribedir. It’s a pleasure to meet you in person. I have to admit that I was rather… surprised by your tactical skills in the battlefield.

“Thank you very much, governor, i learned from the best. Your ships have also fern very well in the battle, i am specifically intrigued by your weapons which are very different to what we use. Calerost had banned relativistic weapons 100 years ago after a tragedy, but we waren’t ever truely fans of them.”

”Thank you captain. We were also very much intrigued by those blue beams your ships can fire. But we can discuss about our weaponry later. For now, we have more pressing matters to talk about.”

”I would now like to ask you some questions, and afterwards you’ll be able to ask some as well. So, my first question is…

”Why are you here? You literally appeared out of nowhere, and it’s not like you did so without being noticed…”

“it was not by choice, but by actident. We use a nother dimension closely connected with this one for our fast method of FTL, called mirial space. Because of it’s unique properties it allows travel at nearly… infinite velocities. But the problem there is the inability to slow down. For that we use specialized devices called beacons which can slow you down to safe exit velocities, if you exit too fast you will release a energy wave, most likely heavily damaging or destroying the ship. That is what happened to the Spark. It was traveling to a church ship, a large ship traveling endlessly trough mirial space searching for religious revilations, for a ordinary patrol when because the inexperience of the navigator it missed the beacon slightly, not slowing it down enough and putting it on a chaotic trajectory, forcing a emergency exit.”

”Interesting… interesting.

Asdariek activated her Neural Communicator, and asked one of the scientists on her side if they were recording all of this. They replied positively. This was going to be valuable info.

”Then we understand. We condone accidents. I’m sure you would have done the same. At least I hope so.

”Regardless, we would also like to ask you to give us your communication signature. It would be great to contact your Empire formally, considering how the current situation isn’t really appropriate for something like that.”

While Riberdir was talking with the governor the more focused and telepathically stronger Hûlion noticed a faintpatern in the emotions and brains of the galactyans, resembling speach, but they waren’t talking. He could asume what it is.

“We have no need for communication with neural implants governor, there’s nothing suspicious or threatening here, is there?”

He knew this would catch the governor by surprise

What the FUCK? How did he- what happened? Did he detect the Neural Communicator? But how?!

Regardless, Asdariek held a mostly calm but slightly surprised face, and replied to the captain.

”Oh. Uhmm… well, captain, I merely wanted to ask one of my scientists something without interrupting the conversation! It would have been rude, wouldn’t it?

Asdariek smiled at Hûlion, hoping he wouldn’t question her further. After all, she couldn’t tell him that they were recording this, as it could’ve made them leave some important details and notions out.
