Fellow South Pacificans,
I wanted to directly address a decision that Minister of Culture @ProfessorHenn and I are making regarding the on-site polls feature going forward. Some of you may have noticed that after Cabinet Order 94, all Regional Officer slots are utilized.
Recent administrations have included the Ministry of Culture running monthly elections for “RMB Mayor” or (subsequently) “Pollmaster”, a separate sub-Cabinet position to run on-site polls. While there are some exceptions, in general the candidates selected for these roles have been lack luster and polls that we’ve had on our page have been of low quality, focusing on inside jokes or overly elaborate plotlines that are difficult to engage with to the exclusion of other members or featuring meme responses/questions that only glorify the poll’s creator. These kinds of polls have failed to contribute to our overall goal of providing entertainment and creating a more inclusive and engaging region. The shift in the past administration from “RMB Mayor” to “Pollmaster” did not actually remedy these problems.
Going forward, the Minister of Culture will primarily be responsible for coming up with poll ideas and posting them on-site. We’ll also collaborate with the Delegate on this work. Additionally, we have started a thread for any South Pacifican to post a potential poll idea for the Ministry of Culture to use and for Ministry staff and the Minister to record ideas for future use. We believe this will provide the kind of public input that the Pollmaster elections previously provided, while also creating the flexibility for the Ministry of Culture to run quality polls and events.
Faithfully yours,
HumanSanity
