Octavia and Lyla exchange an uneasy glance. Avery appears to be deep in taking notes, and Eiko is viewing the cameras in the Brigs via her Wristcomp.

“The Imperium… Suppose we’ll find out one way or another.”

“So… We’ve towed the Imperium Vessels away, in all likelihood, we’re playing the rules of dibs, so… Our labcoats love a challenge. We have POWs, we’ll get information out of them, one way or another. We’ll inform you of any developments. We’ll need somewhere to send this information, of course, so if we could get a location, that’d be amazing.”

“Location? Let me think…” Andarna pauses for a moment after which she takes out a small device and places it on the table. It looked like a metal cylinder. “Here you’ve got the Tourist Advisory Map of the Republic and Wild Regions, official communication codes to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. You also have my personal code if you don’t want to bother with all the bureaucracy. Or maybe get a coffe one day.”

Casey seemed to be looking at her furiously, though it is hard to read somebody wearing a helmet. After a moment he too chimed in to the conversation.

“Could you give us a method of communication with you too? Just in case something happens before a proper embassy is estabilished.”

Lyla goes beat blue, flustering herself as she struggled with the fact an alien could be so forward, Even at First Contact… The rest had similar looks, from confusion to a little flabbergasted.

“I- I’m going through a divorce… I suppose I could…?”

Octavia speaks up

“Apologies, she’s not very sensitive emotionally. You… Just asked her out. Misunderstanding. Anyways, we’ll give you a multispectral SQUAK Encoder, as well as blueprints for it. If you ever need to talk to a Serniani ship, territory, whatever, just use that. Rather cheap, low power, tightbeams.”

“I’m gonna head down for some Life Intelligence work, anything you guys want out of them in specifics?”

“Anything you can get about the other remnants will be apprieciated. Location, strengh, leadership… That kind of stuff.” Casey replied. After that he switched to his suits internal comms. They allowed for communication between Commandos without anybody from the outside hearing. “You seriously couldn’t keep it to yourself, could you. Rember what Hoxha said about Commando humor?”

“‘Not everyone gets it’, I know. But these gals seemed chill.” Replied Andarna, on her internal comms too.

“This is why we don’t have diplomatic authorisation.”

After a moment Andarna speaks up.

“Sorry about that, just a bit of Commando humor. It always gets everybody laughing during official meetings. Except the Kaiser. Honestly, that guy doesn’t even smile.”

Casey chucles slightly, but quickly composes himself.

“When the actual diplomats arrive such things won’t happen. Speaking of that, would your governmemt be willing to estabilish permanent diplomatic relations?”

“The Scientific Directorate does not officially interact with other nations outside the Line, except for the Atlia Federated Protectorate.”

“The Atlia Federated Protectorate is open to all forms of diplomatic communication. We also handle relations with other star nations.”

Ensign Hana is outside the Holding Cells, filing paperwork. Seeing Eiko, she waves her over.

“Hey.”

“Heya. Got people to interview. They’re all in Mobility Restrainers. Everybody’s locked down. Weird seeing you here.”

“Hey, mandatory service be damned, I’ll become a Life Intelligence Collector for the DNIO. You got a timetable?”

“Nope. I’ve cleared off the next 24 hours for this. Keeping it slow and methodical helps with the flow of it.”

“Suppose we should get moving.”

“Agreed, let’s roll.”

“Then we will inform the Ministry, they will handle it. Expect communications about it in the near future. The ministerial bureaucracy isn’t as slow as the senatorial one.” Casey said to the Sereniani.

“Good luck with the interrogation. Just watch out, Imperials can be a bit… Difficult.” Andarna added.

After that the Commandos got up and started going towards their shuttle. When they came inside, everybody burst out with laughter.

“This was close. So close!”

“These Sereniani are quite stuck up, aren’t they.”

“Like the Reds on duty. I’ve heard they once stood in front of Stalin’s office because he forgot to dismiss them. Can you believe that?”

“I’m just happy I don’t have to go on a date with her.” Andarna replied.

“It doesn’t sound that bad, you know. If I were you I would have went for it.” Casey chimed in. His remark trigerred another burst of laughter.

“Jokes aside, we still have an Imperial Commodore to deal with.” Andarna said.

“Captain.”

“What?”

“He is a Captain, not a Commodore. The Commodore was found dead when we stormed the ship.”

“Oh great, one of those smoothbrains. Casey, take care of him. You have a lot more patience than I do.” Andarna commanded.

“Right away, sir.” Casey said while saluting.

Andarna turned to the other Commandos. “Go help Naral with the prisoners. Lets hope the Sereniani have patience. I couldn’t even imagine dealing with more than three in one day.”

As the Commandos are walking out the Serniani Marines are standing between them and their ships. Instead of weapons though, they have coins. As the Commandos pass by, they hand coins, cheerfully explaining what a “Challenge Coin” is to the commandos, handing them each a coin, before dispersing immediately as the Landing Signals Officer arrives to chew them out.

“I’m Ensign Hana, Life Intelligence Analyst. I’ll be sitting in on this interview. The other person is Petty Officer Eiko.”

“How are you doing tonight, can I get your name, reason why you’re here, specialty?”

“I’m Ermont, engineer. We were fleeing from the Republic and attempted an uncharted jump.”

“Ermont, what’s the last thing you remember doing before waking up here?”

“I was preparing the drive for the next jump and then a bunch of xeno soldiers burst in. Bloody xenos, you always get in the way.”

“Feisty one here.”

“Focus.”

“…I have an offer to make you. You have information. Technological information. Now I know you probably don’t want to give it to me, but either I get it out of you the very nice way, like now, or we figure it out the other not so nicer way, where we still get the information. Talk now, and you get to live. Don’t talk, and you may not. Either way we get the info. Take your time.”

He though about it for a while. The Imperium was gone, he and hundreds of others were now stuck here. If he wasn’t going to speak, then they would just use some weird tech on him or somebody else would talk. There was no point in resisting.

“I’ll give you the information you want. But you have to promise that you won’t give me over to those xeno scum in the Republic.”

“Of course. If you’re telling the truth, that is. We have no issue keeping you here. Safe and sound.”

“End interview, thanks. You’ll stay here for the next few days while I sort transfer files out. You’ll be heading into the Nebula, Defense Post Guidance. From there, you’ll be there for a while deconstructing technology. There’ll be some information in your docket, read over it. Have a nice day, Ermont.”

Next the next twenty four hours are a blur. Most accept, some refuse. Those who refused left the station a few days later. Those who accepted, were given a Docket of Information, their transfer files, and were waiting on their designated handler to pick them up. The towed ships pass througsh the gate, entering into Dry Zone Exodus, before being split throughout the Nebula. The 84th Naval Defense Company and her ships finished their repairs in Dry Dock. The 249th Quick Response Fireteam’s Commander, Tristie Claire, survived the engagement, her expertise in Damage Control saving the Preach Unto Fire. Task Force Faith returned to Dry Zone Exodus and patiently waits again to be called up for such incidences.
