[2310.CN] Nomination of Pronoun as General

Legislators of the Assembly,

I come before you today as Minister of Defense of the South Pacific to announce my nomination of @Pronoun (Esfalsa) to the General Corps, as allowed by my statutory power under Article 1, Section 3 of the Military Code. I now seek approval for this appointment from the Assembly.

Pronoun officially joined the South Pacific Special Forces in January of 2022 and has made an immense impact in their time here. In just over a year, Pronoun has participated in 195 updates, including 1674 defensive operations and 1296 detagging operations. However, their most notable contributions to the Force come during their time as Minister of Defense, including the creation of the SPSF Data Portal (the tool I used to procure the above stats), and the creation of Purée, a tool that has allowed Defender forces to bring the number of regions needing detags across NationStates to an all time low.

Pronoun was promoted to the rank of Commander in November of 2022, since which they have continued their steadfast efforts of training new members of the Force and leading operations at updates. In fact, it was Pronoun who led me on my very first military operation!

Thus, after consultation with the General Corps, it is with great pride and pleasure that I come before the Assembly seeking approval for the appointment of Pronoun as a General of the South Pacific Special Forces.

I welcome any questions concerning this appointment.

What does the role of a General mean to you relative to the role of Commander?

I tend to think of the role of a General as being more institutional while the role of a Commander is more operational — that is, a Commander is a military rank that comes with certain duties and responsibilities in enabling, preparing, and conducting military operations, whereas a General is also a position with greater responsibilities in maintaining military structure, conduct, and readiness.

What is your best memory of serving in the South Pacific Special Forces so far and how would you encourage others to join (if interested)?

Noting that any sort of discussion/questioning has, for the most part, ended. I am motioning this appointment to a vote.

I would like to point out that this question was asked a week ago and no response has been delivered. @Pronoun has not submitted a leave-of-absence request in the Office of Assembly Affairs (to my knowledge) during the past seven days.

Noting that the Deputy Chair has motioned this to vote, I would like to see an answer if possible before the nomination is officially brought to the floor.

And of course, it’s not that I don’t support Pronoun’s nomination. I’m just curious about the answer.

I second the motion, pending the answer to the remaining question.

I also too agree with this statement.

Notice from the Chair | Motion to Postpone

The motion raised by Legislators @maluhia and @Griffindor to postpone a vote for [2310.CN] until a response from Nominee @Pronoun has been granted.

Thanks for the ping! Seems I forgot to mark this one unread and come back to it when I had more time >_>

Probably still my first liberation! I’d heard plenty about those operations, but it still struck me how much cooperation and teamwork were required to make the operation a success, and that made seeing it all come together feel all the more special.

Everyone in the Special Forces has a different path that’s uniquely theirs. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all path, and there’s no harm in trying it out. I started out as an occasional civilian volunteer on just the biggest and most personnel-intensive operations, and as I got more involved, I decided to take the plunge — but ‘taking the plunge’ might mean something different to each person, and there’s no shame in that! I’m proud that our Special Forces, and our allies, have members with a range of different interests, skills, and personalities and I think that’s a testament to the opportunities to ‘take the plunge’ in your own way and carve out your own path.
